Thanks Mrs C...yes, yummy. They didn't have the raspberry ones when we were there, they were almonds and vanilla I think. With chocolate dribbles. xx Ohhh what's the restaurant?
There's a king size duvet for under £4 on the Grabbit forum from Mr T's if anyone is interested.0 -
Oooh - never seen chocolatey ones! They have only ever had the raspberry ones when we have visited!
The restaurant is The Dining Room in Rock. We were going to go for lunch then hop over to Padstow on the ferry, but they will only take bookings for parties of 6 for lunch hence OH .Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures0 -
Had a few days off watching the forum - loads to catch up on so have only really skimmed the posts.
Amused at the cat stories and the description of 'little Stanley' who sounds very like my Huge Henry Hoover who HAS to chase every bird he sees. He continues to want my armchair so OH is very amused to see a special cover being put on my chair each night now for him to take over as his night time bed!! He seems to sleep like a baby there until I come down in the morning. He purrs his head off once he's in place but can't seem to understand that in the day time it's MY space!
Has anyone fixed their gas & electric prices for the next couple of years? We've done this with British Gas and have found it OK until we received the last bill 10 days ago. The joint bill was over £500 for a 3 bed semi and us two! We were gobsmacked and OH rang them up, as being retired and on a fixed income this size of bill could practically wipe anyone's monthly budget.
It transpired B/GAS switchboard has been inundated with 100s of irate customers at the ridiculous size of bills. It was explained as their having suncontracted the meter readers who have up to 3 weeks leeway and in fact this was a FOUR MONTH BILL! Whilst they said it was Ok to pay the 3 months and the balance later OH was not willing to do this as we always pay straight away and get a discount. This time, however he has sent a complaint letter plus a copy of the bill to the head of the Complaints dept.
How on earth do these greedy b****ers expect people on only basic benefits or state pension to manage? We are in a better position but not for long if this ludicrous situation continues.
I'm arthritic, very active and wear sensible clothes but if I stay in a cold environment can end up crying with the pain in my joints so how people like my friend who's on a lower income and has fibromyalgia will cope I dread to think. I've visited homes as a health visitor where everyone was wearing coats and huddled under duvets as the heating could not be put on. This affects young and old alike . It's total misery and so depressing.- These utility companies are nothing but greedy and evil in my opinion. Will be getting on with preparing for winter asap I think.
We're still growing our own despite the hosepipe ban and lugging watering cans may not be the best action for a whiplash injury - but we keep plodding onas the new freezer awaits our gluts for winter!
Wish all those having a tough time or in pain a better night tonight ((((hugs)))) all round0 -
Capricorns are perfect. they have no faults

I'm a Lovely Leo married to a Sodding Saggy-torso!
Swopsies anyone? (Must be able to do DIY without moaning/making a pigs ear of it or downing tools after twenty seconds).Normal people worry me.0 -

I'd have loved the raspberry ones. We took the ferry from Rock and I saw the restaurant. Good thing we didn't try and get a table then! How ridiculous, only bookings for 6!!0 -
I can understand it might not be worth them opening for just four of us - but what if someone else did happen want a table for six - they could have taken money off of ten of us! There was no mention of letting us know if anyone else rang to book, which would have made much more sense! The lady was very apologetic and said she hoped we would come another time, but as OH said, we will never be a party of six so it is unlikely :rotfl:Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures0

Miss Daisy cat was chosen to take part in a Purina One trial the other week, and on Monday she received a box containing 2 800gm bags of Purina One & some sample sachets,so that's her dried sorted for the next 2 months (she normally goes thru a 400gm bag every 2 weeks...As for me,I've started using Iceland again, for example I get 4 scotch pies for a quid, thats 4 meals,so combine that with a big bag oven chips & 1/2 tin of beans per meal,I can have a main meal for about 35p......0

I'm here :j
I've adapted well to the new meds and restrictive diet and am feeling much better, but just haven't felt very social or able to offer much helpful so haven't posted. But I have been keeping an eye on the antics!
I've lost a stone which wasn't entirely deliberate and even though it's only a stone I seem to have lost plenty of inches. I'm still baking, but just can't eat it.
I travel to England in a couple of weeks to visit the folks, so brace yourselves, I'm coming. We're braced, Softstuff. Good to see you back again. I've been keeping an eyeball on your blog and was a bit concerned about your health as you'd not posted there since 28th Jan. Got any good biscuit recipes? I just scored loadsa Anchor butter at 45p a block so can afford to bake now............:rotfl:

Well her workplace (a small boarding school which is closing down) held what she called a 'cattle market' where other schools could come and recruit staff, and she's been offered a job! So hopefully that will work out ok and I can relax a bit from 'hyper frugal' mode...:rotfl:
Mar, 'fraid you'll have to keep the RV as it seems the ladies with hubbies have their own burdens to bear and those of us who are single may be [STRIKE]too fond of our own way [/STRIKE][STRIKE]freedom[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]cats [/STRIKE]
Well, I have been to the lottie for a flying visit for about 10 minutes. During which time I saw 2 colleagues and the parent of another. Provincial City is like an overgrown village at times. Don't you just dread those moments at the pub or wherever, when you're introduced to a new person and they say; "Oh, you're GQ! I've heard so much about you!"
:pTo which my reaction is a narrow look until I find out how they know of me and via which of the many Venn diagrams which form my social network. Until I've got my alibi straight, it wasn't me, it was my evil twin Bridget wot did it, OK? You can't get away with anything in this town without the world and its wife knowing about it. And posting it on FB, probably......;)
I'm in the process of opening a hundred and eleventy packets of date-expired flower seeds. These were allowed to date-expire years ago and came to me by a convoluted route which involved the garden centre which allowed them to expire unsold, a charity shop, a blizzard and various other strange co-incidences. I shared a lot when I first got them with pals but still had a shoebox full of packets of things of all colours and shapes (marigolds I recognise but the others are strangers).
Since the newest of them should have been sown by 2006, I'm not wasting too much energy on them but am opening the packs and shaking them into a jam jar. Have already raked one jar's worth into the lottie and will do another jar. I have corralled off an area to be a "flower bed" and will let nature take its course. If they grow, they grow. If not, well, I didn't spend much on them (bin bag full for £1). I'm planning to have a cottage garden type effect and just let it run rampant although I may have to make a few small interventions if anything too evil grows amongst them like nettles or docks. Some weeds may escape to reach adulthood as I have had to retain the packets so I can recognise the flowers when they flower.
Gathered a bushel of twigs on my way across town to use as pea sticks, further cementing my rep as a weirdo, no doubt. Peas have survived in open ground since Monday and no sign of scalloped edges to the leaves which means that the blackbirds have been leaving them alone. I've brought my saved runner beans seeds from 2010 down to soak. I'm sowing Painted Lady this year, alternating it with Nan's Beans (probably Scarlet Emperor) but they have been home-saved for so many decades that no one knows for sure. The geezers on the lottie reckon S E and I go with an old geezer's judgement any day.
Oooff, time for tea. Would it be really piggy to eat a 3rd giant chocolate chip muffin today? They were very whoopsied so obviously some of the calories have leaked out and they can't be as fattening as full-price ones, surely?:D I suspect it would. I'll probably hate myself in the morning, but hey, you only live once. Kettle's on. Have a good evening, peeps.
Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

10 free clipper teabags came in my shopping today, horrah for a freebie but I didn't win a mug.
Sitting here in the dusk without a light on, cannot see a flipping thing but it's kind of soothing. A few pence saved anyway.
Seems the biulding world is becoming frugal too. DH looked into getting some heavy lifting equipment cheaper for a client. He got them a price - £1 per machine per week cheaper than what they are paying and they still swapped to him. Beggars belief! He's going to give a discount at the end to say thanks for using him but wow, £1.0
