PP - speak to PALs and see if you qualify for patient transport. DH can drive to our two most local hospitals but can't get to Kings, so hospital transport driver picks him up and delivers him to the door, a porter then takes him to the department to see the consultant and takes him back to the transport office for a lift home.
If I were to try and take him via the train, I'd have to negotiate three trains into London, the tube across to Kings and then the return journey.....factor in the time, the cost and the physical exertion on me pushing his chair and it would be a nightmare. He does try to arrange to see two of his consultants up there on the same day to save journeys."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -
I'd forgotten how good it feels, to sit here in the sunshine, drinking a mug of tea.

Hope it lasts for at least an hour.:rotfl:Felines are my favourite

Potter, that is!!!
Well what a day yesterday was. We were all set to leave the house with our free train passes to catch said train to the HP tour in London when OH (who works for railways) checked the lines and said that the wires were down and I'd have to drive
Blessed filthy weather had caused the problem and , of course, I then had to drive through it down the M1. I managed to put the wrong post code into the sat nav, caused a bit of chaos on the roundabout at the end of the M1 (do people who beep at you and tap their foreheads "are you mad?" stylee think they are helping? I knew I'd messed up, they didn't have to point it out quite so vociferously:p). Then the new sat nav info took us up a narrow country lane to the locked gates at the back entrance  resulting in me reversing half a mile back - and i am worse at reversing than I am at roundabouts :rotfl:
Anyway we found it and it's brilliant, if you have tickets you won't regret it. A must for all Potter fans.
OH stayed at home and so he cooked dinner meaning we didn't have to eat out - a bit of a saving.
DD was moping round this morning saying she felt sick etc. I reckon she wanted the day off to watch Harry Potter DVD's, so she has gone off to school with a flea in her ear and a scowl on her face. DS says he too feels sick but I think that might be the whole chocolate frog he ate on the way home.
TIme for a coffee and some cleaning. Hmm, I have just had my cleaner leave and am doing it myself now - do you really have to clean every week?:oI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -

I have had an email from the hospital and if I call the train phone number on the route planner, they actually fund and sort the taxi for you as part of your destination route. So if I buy a ticket to the hospital, we get off at station before then they pay/organise taxi and drop us to hospital. OH can then claim back his travel fees from the hospital.
At least we won't be out of pocket if we need to do this.
Thanks for all the advice.

PP thats brilliant news,:)
VJsmum - Cleaning I am very poor at, I find if I dont get everything done before the school run it doesnt happen, as I use school time to catch up on paperwork, appointments and often sleep etc.
Stiltwalker - excellent news about hydrotherapy, its not a service offered anywhere locally here at all.
Grandma - check your insurance documents, we are not affected by claims made as a result of an incident with an unisured driver. Realistically though even if you dont claim you will need to inform them and that in turn may affect your premiums. The police will log the incident and that goes on the database that insurers can check - and its a requirement to declare " any accident or incident that may have resulted in a claim, even if you did not make a formal claim", not declaring could invalidate your insurance. Sorry.
If the other driver was insured then you can look to claim all your costs, including premium increases from them.
Its stopped raining here:j:j and all kids are in school!!:j OH still off work and showing no signs of attempting further movement.
I have someone coming out today to assess my caring role ?? No idea what thats about but its a requirement to access the carers centre.
Have tidied everywhere and all looking respectable so baring a disaster am all set.0 -

Did it start emitting smoke? There's info on the internet to show you how to repair that problem but it needs a replacement whatsit to be soldered on.

The magpies aren't having a barny round here but the garden birds are going hell-for-leather. I had no idea darling little blue-tits could be so noisy. I need a bird-book so I can identify all the ones chirping and flying about outside. The two swans have made their usual nest in the reed-bed outside and I'm hoping the bad weather we had last week hasn't put paid to any eggs she may have laid.
The sun is shining! What a difference 24 hours makes. Most especially to my frame of mind. It's glorious today and the best kind of laundry-drying weather.0 -
Finally I can get all the duvet covers/towels/bathmats on the line - just have to watch they don't end up in North Wales though, the wind is so strong.
Apart from that I have to get out of my CBA mood of yesterday. It was an effort to put down a book or newspaper and get on with life.
DS1 has been in pain for a week or more, his knee has swollen to twice its size and is clicking and grinding. It also locks when he's walking. Doc has referred him to a specialist and thinks it might be osteo arthritis. They've also taken a biopsy from his other leg where he has an awful rash along the shin bone. It's being controlled by eczma cream but the doc's wants to make sure that it IS eczma or psoriasis. He has to go to work or won't get paid, although the doc told him to rest and keep the leg elevated.
It's all very worrying, he's relatively young for this at 46 (and lives on his own in Liverpool, a fair distance from us).Normal people worry me.0
