Im sitting here crying. Garage just called and we've been sold a couple lemon. The gear box needs changing all 4 somethings have gone, loads of other stuff....3k, more if the turbos have gone! I don't know what to do? It was a private sale and OH has tried to call him a minute ago but not answering his phone. They must have known. We've used all our savings and only have cards left to buy on which I don't want to do.

Collect together what evidence you can over this weekend and speak to Trading Standards first thing on Monday morning.

In the mean-time, try to keep your chins up.

Do you have a proper postal address for him?

How did you pay for it?

PP - if he is a trader masquerading as a private seller, and not paying appropriate taxes, then trading standards will look into it, but also the police and tax man. If you have home insurance or car insurance with legal cover then you will have access to a helpline for advice.
Personally I would call and leave a message simply saying that you expect a refund and that he should call you within 24 hours to arrange it. I would add that if he didnt contact you within the time then you would be contacting the relevant authorities to have him investigated.

I assume that it would be better for him to refund you than have the hassle of investigation particularly by tax man.

Upon receiving a refund I would still be reporting him.

PP I have no more advice than what everyone else has said but just wanted to let you know my dear am thinking of you and sending you lots of love and hugs - no help I know sorry.

As someone mentioned could you use your DLA for a car - when I first got it I enquired about a car but as hubby is driver and used it for work I said no good and the CS rep on the phone said if the named driver only uses the car for going to work not for pleasure then they usually turn a blind eye, but as hubby does use car for going to his short mat bowls and that involves a lot of travelling I didn't go down motorbility route so we used the money to pay for the car on finance and we pay road tax ourselves as same objection to getting them to pay it. I know this doesn't help you one jot just now, just wish I had something more I could do.....am just so angry:mad: that you have had this done to you, that guy should be working for the government, he would fit right in the way he rips off disabled.

    Hugs and love xxx

    Hi GQ

My mum bought it from Cornwall for me at a Bootsale a few months back. She took a picture and sent to me as she knew I wanted one as I feel the cold a lot and loved it! She paid £15 for it, but TBH, I would have paid more if needed as its so well made, heavy and warm.

Thank you for making it! Its my favourite blanket ever and I take it into hospital with me when I have to have treatment and even on long car journeys.

    xx
:)I'm glad you like it hun; it's travelled several hundred miles to get to Cornwall and back and could indeed tell a tale or two.

 Very upset to hear that you have been cheated so badly. Great advice from the others; if he's trading and not declared for tax etc he potentially has a helluva lot to lose if HMRC and Trading Standards get on in his case. Maybe he'd respond to an ultimatum to get you out of his hair. ((((so sorry))))).

I just love the barter system :j In an attempt to keep his mind occupied OH made 2 painted signs for the butty wagon at the fishing site he goes to. He didnt want paying but the chap said he would feed him for free when he can get down for a few hours fishing. Suits me fine as the food is good and it saves me rounding up provisions for him and him using up the very expensive gas for his little stove which I want for emergencies. So today he took the signs and the butty man was over the moon. When the owner of the lakes saw it he asked OH to make him a few signs ..payment... a years free fishing :T:T:T
So now not only do I get peace and quiet knowing he is safe (they know his medical problems) in a disabled friendly place but it now costs nothing :D
:) OH ginny, that's a lovely outcome, wins all around. Your OH must be made-up. Well done that man.:)

Well, it keeps raining, drying, raining and drying. Everyone here is thoroughly p'd off. I'm desperate to get onto my lottie but the forecast suggests that this weekend will be a washout, too. Shall have to make at least a flying visit to get the rotables from the compost caddy into the Dalek. Much longer and the things which have grown fur will grow teeth as well and come out to eat me whilst I sleep.

Police cars are in and out of Shoebox Towers like flies on the proverbial as we have some [STRIKE]druggie scumbags[/STRIKE] sorry, I meant to say, people with chaotic lifestyles * accomodated in the nearby hostel and they and their buddies are using the Towers as a shooting gallery, drinking den, urination facility and place to drop the detritus of their shoplifting expeditions.

Well, am cream-crackered so will pootle off to have a read elsewhere.

    Take care, all. GQ xx

Ginny, I forgot to say earlier, but GQ's post reminded me, what a lovely outcome for your OH. :)

The latest buzz word I heard was people facing, as in, we are no longer people facing...this is at social services. Meaning, you no longer can just pop in to see someone and the door is locked.

Does anyone know a good conditioner for eyelashes? One of the downsides of having eyes tested, is looking in the mirror at length trying on frames. I noticed my eyelashes are dry and brittle and stick out at all angles.

:) I have read that you can conditon them with a small amount of Vaseline. Not suitable for contact lens wearers, I should think, in case they smear. Maybe worth a try? Can't say I've done it myself as I've never noticed a need.

NOT people-facing? Who the hell do they think they are, widget-manufacturers?! If Social Services aren't about people what the hell are they about? Kafka would've hung up his fountain-pen as redundant if he'd had to encounter the modern world and it's idiocies.

Ok, calm down, tea deficit. Sorry.

Basically, Ive printed out everything and OH contacted Auto trader who has confirmed that the seller has a trade account with them and he's emailed proof through to us and contacted Trading Standards too, so its all documented. He also sent us the original advert that the seller did as the car is now registered to OH.

OH used my phone to call the seller and he was okay but insisted that he was a private seller, but then when OH asked him why his details were not on the log book he back tracked a little. We haven't told him yet that we know he's a trader, as OH spoke after he had spoken to him. OH gave him 3 options...1...Money back please, 2...do the work that needs doing or 3...legal involvement.

I don't really want to use my DLA for a car. With all the new rules coming in next year, I'll probably loose it anyway knowing my luck, so rather have our own car and too many restrictions also are placed on it.

We went to his house to view and paid cash, but have a receipt.

PP, I hope you are feeling a little better now you are able to be proactive. I know it must be an awful shock especially as he's aware of your disability. What a low life scumbag he is. Keep us posted and don't let the bustards get you down.

    (((((((((PP)))))))))

GQ, I used to use vaseline as a teen, so may try again.

Mardatha, I haven't been able to watch all the way through as my connection is not so good, but will try again later.
