If he buys and sells then he's a trader - he's doing it for a profit.
A private seller is one selling their own things, not those bought/ obtained for onward resale.
Was the previous V5 in his name and how long had he had the car?

No it was in another persons name miles away.To repeat what others have said, requires education, to challenge it,requires brains!FEB GC/DIESEL £200/4 WEEKS0 -
Oh PP how awful! Can you check his ebay profile - has he sold other cars and what's his feedback like? Did you/OH go to his house to view the car? It does sound like he is trading not a private seller, I'm sure trading standards would want to know. I know what it's like to be stung - a horrible feeling in the pit of the stomach, but we could afford it, god knows how you must feel! so sorryThink big thoughts but relish small pleasures0

Definitely sounds like a trader to me. (wonder if he's registered as s/emp with HMRC to pay tax on his earnings...?)I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £200 -
I wouldn't keep ringing: that batard won't answer and if he does I suspect I can anticipate what his response will be.
Gather together all of the evidence you can lay your hands on that this shyster is a dealer. Download and print all of his current ebay auction listings and every single one of his complete transactions for vehicles. Do not let this one go! If not for your own sake but for other innocent future buyers. Get his buns into court. That the previous owner (if I have understood your post correctly) was not the vendor I find very, very compelling.0 -

It sounds like, as others are saying that he IS a trader, and if you look at the link I gave it mentions one of things to look out for, is the log book in the name of another person. I think you have a very good chance of proving he is a trader and therefore your have rights you wouldn't have as a private seller.0 -
Been away for a few days and I've spent an hour (or three) catching up.
Shegar..I hope you're feeling better now and on the mend.
(((hugs))) to everyone who needs them...or wants a hug just for the hell of it.
PP That's a bl00dy awful thing to have someone do to you. Take all the advice on here (plus more), gather everything together and at least try the CAB to see if you can get any redress. B**tard!
I've been on my annual short trip with my friend. We go away together
for a few days sans husbands, cleaning, ironing etc. S'lovely.
This year we went to Alicante (cheap Ryanair flight and well researched 'reasonable' hotel) and it was sunny, dry and hot.
And now I'm blasted freezing and can't get motivated to do anything much, least of all try to dry the washing.
OH well, OH has managed to eat all the HM freezer food I left for him so I guess I'll start peeling potatoes and cooking a couple of chicken breasts.
Back to the real world for another year then.Normal people worry me.0 -
I agree with the others, it definitely sounds like he's a trader, what type of Ebay account does he have? Plus the fact that someone else's name is on the log book, certainly sounds like he buys and sells for profit.
Personally I would gather as much evidence as possible, log book, print his ebay auctions and feedback pages (showing any buying or selling of cars) and read up on your rights. It's very different between a private seller and a trader.
I'd be tempted to go round to his house with copies of all the evidence and demand every penny back that you've paid including repairs and diagnostic tests. If he refuses, trading standards and a decent solicitor would be my next stop.
PP have you ever thought about a Motability car? I know you pay your DLA money and the car never belongs to you but it's pretty worry free, no repair costs, no insurance, no MOT, services etc.Dum Spiro Spero0 -
Oh Penny-pincher how awful for you. If he told you he buys and sells then he's a trader in my book. Contact trading standards and take the !!!!!! to court if he won't give you your money back. Don't give up. Also you might be able to get back the money you've spent on trying to repair it. Don't, whatever you do, feel sorry for him or try to cut him any slack - if he gets his comeuppance off you it's no less than he deserves. You go, girl!! xx
Mrs Chip aww thank you. It doesn't do a girl's confidence much good when even her friends think she's too eccentric to find a soul mate! Hope the launch goes OK, you're on the countdown now! For some reason I do have this image of in a chip butty van also selling lime green mankinis, which are hanging from clothes hangers round the window and blowing in the wind ..... :rotfl:Aspire not to have more but to be more.
