Hiya bogwobbit (love the user name!), and I used to be a civil servant in the most hated department so you're safe here.:D

Thanks for all the knee tips, not sure I can cope with frozen peas or the like as I am so cold anyway. Thanks also for the hugs. :A

GQ I haven't had my eyes tested in years, so need to go. I'm terrible at taking care of myself.

    Penny, that looks so yummy.

Stiltwalker, I hope you can get the support you need now you have a diagnosis.

    Shegar, how are you today?

I had a good morning before falling. There was a French market in the farm shop across the road, which was lovely. Amazing food and lots of gorgeous sweets and cakes and bread.

GQ I'm not sure how you can say nothing exciting is happening in your life when you've just found two bonus parsnips!! Or do I just need to get out more? :o

Byatt I hope your knees are ok. Talking of bikes and knees, I thought I must have broken my knee when I fell off a new bike a couple of years ago... I landed right on the knee, and I'm no tiddler, I'm a big lass (bought the bike to encourage me to exercise more). It didn't even really bruise up, and was ok but sore for a few days. Hope yours go the same.

My thoughts and virtual hugs are with those who are suffering one way or another at the moment, I haven't often posted on this thread but I am a serial lurker  and always wish you all well.

Welcome Bogwobbit! Scottish folk are most welcome over here, especially if they're crackers like one or two we already have.

Had a stroke of unexpected luck this afternoon. Spotted a pair of knee-height black boots on the ground by the dust-bins on my way to the shops this arvo. They were still there when I came back, so I've swiped them. Half a size too small for me but I have a friend in dire need who has no money and they're right size for her. I'll give them a clean and if she doesn't like them they can go to the Sally Ann and they can make a couple of quid from them. Who throws a perfectly decent pair of nice Hush Puppy boots in good condition away? There must be mad people about. Maybe another neighbour will be chucking emerald earrings out, you just never know.

B&T, I go to the localish recycling centre often, well as often as I can...and the things people throw away are unbelievable. I don't understand why they can't just drop stuff off at a CS. All good for the rest of us though as I've had some amazing bargains, and got most of my vintage pyrex (which I seem to be breaking a lot!) from the "shop" there. The saddest part is seeing family photo albums or frames with the pictures still in them. It just goes to show, when you go, the people left behind don't always want your treasures. It's made me move things on to my daughter now rather than after I've died.

Thanks JPS, the right knee really hurts but it's manageable. I fell off a bike once (the first and last time I tried to ride as a adult), the bike went over on its side, and I went with it, and hit my knee that time, like you. I should be ok...must have looked hilarious to an outsider.

Aaaw, thanks everyone for the lovely welcome :)
The kettle's on and the tea will soon be brewing - being a civil servant, one thing I'm used to doing is making tea ;-)
Byatt, poor you after your fall. I know how you feel - I fell onto my knees crossing the road nearly a month ago (caught my foot in the leg of my flared trousers, believe it or not) and it was agony. I rarely cry but I felt like sitting down on the kerb and sobbing I can tell you. It still hurts to kneel on them now after all that time. I hope you're better soon.
Better go now - dh has nipped out to buy my son a new calculator. He has an important Maths exam coming up and managed to lose his old one :undecided- so I've probably got about ten minutes before they come back and shatter my peace and quiet and want their dinner.

Evening, have been very frustrated last few days as I have been able to read but not post.

Sending hugs to byatt, stiltwalker and shegar.

Byatt I swear there was something about arnica oil or something to help with bruising, maybe worth asking at the chemist.
Stiltwalker - any diagnosis hits hard, whether expected or not, at least now you know what you are dealing with though
Shegar - words fail me, to be so poorly treated whilst so incredibly ill defies belief in this day and age. Ironically I know people who have come to visit people on this country from Europe and had top treatment at no cost, and certainly no harrassment for money.

Finally I would like to say a huge thank you to the nonnies,:A:A I received a wonderful parcel yesterday that moved me to tears. I am welling up just thinking of it now, such kindness is overwhelming. Once again a huge thank you. :)
