Byatt, poor you. Arnica is definitely good but I would add to those urging you to get an eye test especially if you haven't been for a while. I had glaucoma diagnosed on a routine test and I hope to keep my eyesight for many years as it was diagnosed early. But it did explain why I had started to get a bit clumsy and kept catching my hip on things - permanent bruises on my hipbones because my side vision was developing a blind spot.
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

Mary, thank you. I am making an appointment tomorrow, as I never considered glaucoma (and I have diabetes), I just keep going but I am a bit worried now, which is a good thing as it motivates me.

If you have diabetes or glaucoma eye tests are free so make sure you tell them so you don't have to pay

GQ I'm not sure how you can say nothing exciting is happening in your life when you've just found two bonus parsnips!! Or do I just need to get out more? :o

My thoughts and virtual hugs are with those who are suffering one way or another at the moment, I haven't often posted on this thread but I am a serial lurker  and always wish you all well.
:D You and me both, hun, you and me both. :D I was beaming from ear-to-ear and brandishing the mega-parsnips at a couple of lottie neighbours. They like me enough to pretend to be impressed. Actually, we're technically in the "hungry gap" so any fresh produce is a boon and a blessing. And don't lurk when you could post, pleeeze............

:T Worries which lead to productive actions are good things IMO. I'm under consulant's orders to have annual eye tests as the meds which are keeping me alive have the potential to damage my sight. I treat it like a MOT for me; one a year with the optician, twice a year with the dentist.

But it's no bad thing for any of us to be careful of our sight. Nearly 30 years ago I was talking to the optician conducting my test and he was up in arms about the abolition of universal free testing. Said he'd recently encountered a 16 y.o. girl with pressure in her eyes so high that she was admitted to the hospital within the hour, and a student with a tumour in the back of her eye which was about to penetrate her brain. She had surgery within days, lost the eye but it saved her life. Both those young women had no symptoms whatsoever.

There's lots of stuff about your wider health which can be detected by an eye exam, so please don't neglect this. I also pay an additional £10 to have the photographs done. Since I'm incurably nosey, the optician has to talk me thru the images up on his computer, and brings up previous years' ones. I look at that Chinese lantern-orange picture of my eyeball and feel very humble and protective of its delicate globe. All those darling wee veins and stuff.........it's so clever and you'd never know all that was lurking behind the murky green bits visible front-of-house..............:rotfl:

Hope everyone is going to have a restful evening and that Byatt won't be too stiff and sore tomorrow morning. Laters GQ x

Eye tests are free at Tesco still at the moment if anyone is struggling to pay. :)
  • Hey now. I'd like it on record that if there's ever to be any more a nonny activity I'd like to be in on it too, ta. I like a bit of conspiring, most especially for someone nice.

OOh Byatt, get up slowly in the morning till you find out what hurts or not as the case maybe!

Katieowl your cake venture sounds exciting, wishing you well - i wont say luck cos Im sure if your cakes are as good as I imagine you wont need luck - one taste and they will be back for more. :T

All well at Castleginnyknit. OH slowly recovering and used up lots of energy with DGS that he actually had to give in and rest. DGS's favourite thing is to sit on the bottom stair leaning on the safety gate with grandad next to him while they ponder life and eat raisins :rotfl: Its DGS's 2nd birthday tomorrow so lots of fun in store. Dd doesnt waste money so its corned beef hash all round at hers and simple gifts bought at low price. if I went and bought a card instead of making one she would lock me out :o She will not have a fancy party for a child who doesnt know what its all about and ends up ratty and tired, bless her.

Right off to bed so I can hear if OH needs me and a good nights sleep in order so I can slay dragons again tomorrow, night all.

Ginny that sounds lovely, the idea of your DH sitting on the stairs eating raisins with your DGS just seems so sweet. :)

Birthday sounds good too, while your DGS is not at school its ideal to keep it simple and family only.

    Evening all
I'm not new to the forum but I am new to this thread :-)

What can I tell you well I'm falling to buts :-s and so unsure where to go with life ATM :-(

I'm a married mum to 3, turning 35 next month and currently in year 2 of uni.
Big problem in uni is I've missed so much this year due to bad health, I'm hoping to get permission to resit the whole year but then I think is it worth it?? I've not been 100% as its not quite what I expected.
Also unsure if my health is up to going back :-(
I have considered the open uni but not a clue about funding as cannot afford it >.<
I have a fantastic hubby who is so proud of me with how far I've got and will support me in anything, but I feel I'm letting him and the kids down.
Annoyingly my healthy problems aren't claimable for disability benefits, which is a pain :-(
I'm also stressing over the lost money if I quit uni, we're also in an IVA so restricted on what we have to spend and I really don't want to loose My car it's my lifeline but I think the IVA lot will take it off me if I leave uni as Ill health without a disability claim is not a good reason to be allowed to keep it :-(

One plus is after 9 years im starting to like my house and see the potential :-) were about to embark on a huge project on the garden that I'm so excited over :-)
Then when we can afford it I've seen the kitchen of my dreams in B&Q :-) that I sooooo have to have lol

Anyway enough of my moaning I hope everyone is well and had a fab day :-) xxx

Insert wagging finger smiley here - Byatt you are very naughty! Please make sure you have your eye test! You can use arnica ointment on your knees to bring bruises out and it does help, but you can't use it on broken skin because the pain would just not be worth it ....

I want to be a nonny mouse! Can I wear clogs? Can I? Pleeeaaaase!

Woke up with a chesty cough this morning but doesn't seem to be developing so fingers crossed.

Ginnyknit, where do you buy your raisins? Asda haven't had any smart price raisins for weeks but I must admit I haven't checked anywhere else.

Hello Bogwobbit (love the username!) and Dee

Anyone seen MrsLurcherwalker and Doc? There are a few others who are missing in action too. I hope they return to the fold!
