Tofu is a soy abeased protein. Comes plain or flavoured. It's either in the veg section or in the chilled section of some delis
  • Morning..been a long time lurker but feel the need to post and really dig my heels in with money saving as its going to be a very tight year this year for us,the new tax year will leave us around £200 a month worse off so as frugal as i am its back to the drawing board again..

Going to spend this morning digging out the chest freezers in the garage to see what exactly is in there and meal plan. Then going to have a sort out to see what i can sell on ebay.

DH car is up to sale as can no longer afford to run 2 cars.Know we are going to lose on it as we bought it before fuel prices shot up and its a large petrol engine:(

Hubby is going to spend today putting a greenhouse up that we got from freegle.Managed to get some new glass for it for a couple of pounds from ebay local seller.Looking forward to growing my veggies this year after 2 unsuccessful years of only managing tomatoes and runner beans.

We live quite rural, very happy and peaceful where we are(kids hated when we 1st moved from a lively seaside location). So unless i check the internet its sometimes an ignorance is bliss with all that is going wrong in the world.

We have 3 weddings to attend this year so trying to make those into mini breaks as a family..managed to book some rooms when travelodge sale went live so thats a relief..just have to save up for the diesel costs and each couple are having 'wishing wells' instead of gifts..not sure if this makes it harder or easier without looking tight :o

Looking forward to reading everyone ones threads and getting some hints and tips to everyday living..x

    Morning Campers - Hi Cm1b!

Mar - could you post up some of the meals you used to eat - I must admit to struggling to find low-fat ideas that are 'plain' enough for you:rotfl:, so perhaps knowing what you used to have we can find ways to make them low-fat?

Read this - the head of British Gas is telling us gas & elect prices will keep going up for the next ten years... and in the next breath tells us we shouldn't moan, we should just ditch Sky tv and mobile phones to pay for it!! He blames it on upgrading work needed on the National Grid - so why can't he pay for that out of their whopping profits then?!

  • MAR - How do you feel about turkey? our local Mr T does a 500g pack of minced turkey breast for £3.15p which is very low fat and you could substitute this for beef mince in any recipe. You could make Meatballs, Burgers, Sheperds Pie, Mince'n'Tatties, Spaghetti Bolognese, even Hot Pot with it and it tastes OK as well. The other thing that would fill you up if you could fancy it is fruit compotes - posh way of saying stewed fruit. I do mine in the slow cooker as I like the texture, it doesn't fall to pieces, even rhubarb stays in chunks. Hope this helpd. Cheers Lyn.

Mardatha - I second the idea of turkey mince, we used it alot when it was cheaper, nowadays its the same price, but I really enjoyed bolognese and cottage pie with turkey mince instead.
