PAH - I'd like to say I'm surprised and disappointed but I'm not :( Assuming the person you spoke to was trotting out the line she'd been given by her supervisors, your complaint needs to go to a higher authority. And a separate complaint about her attitude - it's supposed to be customer SERVICE!

Re the gums - my SIL had exactly the same thing when she stopped smoking - her dentist said it was smoking related and would stop fairly soon, which it did. Hot very salty water held over the pain site will work - don't swallow!

VJsmum - fingers crossed for dad and you.

Jackel - in the nicest possible way - cobblers?

Ventured out in the car for the first time in over a week - started first time, lovely :T Got a Lakeland breadkeeper/slicing guide for £1 and topped up with veg to accompany my storecupboard/freezer meals - butter beans with chorizo tonight :)

Yukky interview at Job Centre tomorrow - have decided to claim JSA. It will be contribution based so there should be no problem but still not looking forward to it. However have got a £25 Debenhams voucher left from Christmas so will have a pootle round there - it will be the first time I have gone to main town since well before December! Can't say I've missed it either.

PAH, so glad you are getting somewhere! Good for you. :T:A

I am at my wit's end again. Just had the team leader for DD's support and had another "lecture" about what DD needs and despite me doing everything I can for her for years for her (fighting the education system for one) still more and more is expected of me. I am not a f'ing miracle worker. I can't cope with this. I am supposed to be looking for work and how on earth can I hold a job down when things are as they are. my little business is becoming stressful because it seems I am supposed to have all this free time for supporting my DD.

No-one really listens to me. I can't help it if my DD is depressed...I go there as often as I can. I talk and talk to her. She has contact with me day and night. Now I'm supposed to do the shopping with her and support her with her diet (she's very overweight)...I am trying, have tried but I'm not there 24/7 and ex is useless. he fed her all sorts of carp when she was at his. Now it seems I am being told that I am letting my dog suffer by letting her stay with my DD and that I must tell her to walk the dog more.

Long long lecture. I say stuff back but it's like water off a ducks back. They tell me things I *know*...yet want me to sort them out.

There's no money to help my DD more, yet they say they will try for this or try for that, and when I ask, how long will it take, I'm told how long's a piece of string. It's all talk and paperwork and being seen to do right.

I don't know what to do anymore. I can't stop crying.

I feel undervalued and criticised. :(:(:(

edit: sorry for the whine. Decided to do something positive and write a letter to them explaining how I feel. I think they need something in writing, because phone calls just don't cut it and I feel my voice is not being heard. I'm not sure when I am supposed to be having a life. They pay lip service to it but that's all.

Blimey, a lot has been happening since I was last here!

Firstly PAH - it sounds like you're getting things sorted but if you need any advice or any aspect investigating, please feel free to PM me. I work in local gov and have done a variety of jobs. What I do now crosses every department and mine is a small authority so I am on good terms with most folk in all areas. If I don't have an answer I could find one.
What a ridiculous situation. As an 'insider', I can unfortunately confirm there are huge problems with how things work and are handled. There's lots of good too, but the whole system has many flaws.

    Essential oils
If you want something good for gums, put a 2-3 drops of tea tree oil in a glass of water and gargle with that after you brush. Tea tree is antibacterial and antifungal. It is one of the few oils which is fine to apply direct to skin (though do test first if you're sensitive). It's great at killing germs. I apply it directly to spots, have mixed it with plain cream for a bout of athletes foot, put drops in the bath to create a cold-killing steam etc. I sound lovely eh! :rotfl:
Tea tree can be bought cheaply at Boots.

My mum studied aromatherapy and gave me a copy of the recommended book for her course. It has everything and anything in it, indexing all oils and their uses plus suggesting blends and homemade cosmetics and remedies. If you have a question I could look it up!

Well, I'm just back from Aldi which was satisfying. OH has officially mended the washing machine and we're halfway through the lovely chocolate torte he baked. Moved-In-Friend is out tonight so we'll have a bit of couple time which will be lovely. I got some filled tortellini for dinner as I just really fancied them, and there's a bottle of cava in the fridge. I do love bubbles :D

I have a sudden and terrible urge to shop today, but I abated this by looking on ebay then getting annoyed with all the bad listings :)

It's been really sunny and everso slightly less cold today. I *think* we're due to miss the next bout of snow, bloomin' hope so anyway!

Hope all of those due more white stuff are OK. By the sounds of it, extra insulation could be made from all the loo rolls :D

    Have a good evening all.
Proud to be a moneysaver :)

Jackel - whereabouts in N. Staffs are you? There is an old fashioned ironmongers shop in Holmes Chapel, just off the M6 that sells absolutely everything that you "can't get these days" - I know they certainly sell dylon dyes and I bet they sell leather dyes. It's called Morrey's, see this link.
It could be worth giving them a quick call.

  • PAH - Glad to hear they are on to it for you. What would we do without organisations like that one to fight our corner for us? Give 'em heck! And well done on the not smoking too!

So sad to hear of that lady. And Mrs Chip that is awful  When my mum had her stroke the paramedics thought she'd 'just' had an epileptic fit and even got stroppy with my sister for wasting their time calling them out! At the hospital they made her wait to see a doctor for a couple of hours because the paramedics said she was non-urgent, before realising she'd actually had a massive stroke. She's permanently paralysed as a result, never got her speech back and has a form of confusion called dysphasia. Every time they have those ads saying the faster you act, the more of the person you save, I wonder what would have happened if they had treated it as an emergency. Although I hate those ads, because she's not less of a person than she was, she's just got disabilities.

Gums - try asking for Orajel, it sounds similar to gingigel and works great.

    No snow yet...

Oh Byatt I don't know what to say, it must be really hard for you to know what to do.

I can only offer practical advice, based on what you have written before.

It sounds like they are worried your dog is putting on weight becase it is not being walked or not fed the right food (would DD give too many treats perhaps?). I know this sounds hard, but RSPCA can confiscate animals if they are not being looked after, so perhaps they were trying to help you but did it in a ham-fisted way? Can you take dog back for a while to get it back into condition? They may be saying it too to try to get DD out and exercising, but I guess you know whether she is in the frame of mind to do that.

I know your DD is an adult, what do they expect you to do more than you are doing? Is it possible DD could spend more time with you, and would that help?

All this must be very painful, feeling like people are judging you is horrible. Do try not to take it all to heart - you know your DD, they don't. ((((hugs))))
