My laptop has been wierd so have not been able to do much on here . Just read about preparedathome, Byatt and VP s mum so want to send virtual hugs and fingers crossed good vibes.

I want to shake that horrible woman till her teeth rattle - PAH
have you thought of contacting your MP as you should not be denied these forms.

Approved Foods just delivered two boxes - got nan bread at ridiculously cheap price so ordered loads so I can freeze it. It comes to something when the nan bread costs as much as the home made curry!!! Also got some tins of crab meat so can make posh fishcakes, tiny quiches etc (about 50 pence a can so could not resist it). DDs (three still at home) go through soft drinks quickly so ordered lots of diet coke, Fanta, Vimto and juice to dilute. Lazy garlic and Lazy chillies at half price, packs of bagels. peri peri sauce , special k bars for lunches and some chocolate. All for around £30.

Going to unpack stuff and hide it as if dds know we have lots of soft drinks etc and that I got a good deal they turn their nose up. For once dh has not complained at stuff arriving as he is beginning to realise how good a deal it is.

Might slither to shop later before snow comes back for some cooking apples , plums or rhubarb so I can make crumbles, some more milk and eggs etc. Shocked at how much cheaper it is to bake my own rolls as I have just started to experiment with this again.

    Hug to all

Kidcat Hope you are feeling a little better today :) Thanks for the heads-up on the appointments for carers, I will pass this on to my sister, as she is full-time carer to our Mum and her doctors' seem to think you should know a week in advance that you'll be ill

Esther Sadly I have spendthrift friends who waste unbelievable amounts of food. One of my friends won't eat any food the day after it's been opened, whether it's a chicken that's been cooked, a packet of ham or even a block of cheese  Then she wonders why she's never got any money. Most of my friends throw away far too much food. They all roast a chicken on a Sunday, use what they want for dinner that day then just throw the rest of it out. I really don't get it, but I've tried talking to them enough times and now I've given up. Not my business, really. So one of my friends probably has your 1/3!

I popped into the charity shops when I put my cheque into the BS this morning. Got a lovely red tweed skirt for £3. Originally thought it was HM as I couldn't see a label. Turns out it's M&S. I'm wearing it to work this afternoon :D Also got a black dress, been looking for a winter-weight one for months and finally got it! More than I'd usually pay for a fiver. My favourite lady was on the till, she said oooh it's a posh one today. I'd never heard of it, Betty Barclay, she said no it's a proper designer. Looked online when I got home, who the heck would pay over £100 for a plain black dress?????? It's not even natural fibres it's viscose and nylon!!!!! Though it is very well cut and flattering to my, ahem, 'womanly' figure.

Looks like early reports of large amounts of snow for my area were very much exaggerated. They're saying 5-10cms overnight which I don't think will be too much of a problem for me, though I'll pop round the elderly neighbours in case they need anything.

I've just had approved foods delivery too! :) It's like christmas everytime they come :T Organic GF Falafel mix, dorset cereals, Puy lentils, posh bath stuff, Elida conditoner, marrons glace - this is all classy stuff! Plus of course the reason I ordered - 10 x those £1.49 aprons for the workshop I'm doing for the kids. Work just about took my arm off when I told them I hoped it was OK I'd made an executive decision and bought them while they still had them. Most aprons I looked at were about seven or eight quid! I also got some mung beans, which I'm hoping will still sprout! (they were dated Aug 2011 - but i'm sure they'll be fine!)

PAH That's outrageous you go get and we'll all stand behind you with our biggest wooden rolling pins! We get a small amount of HB and CT (OH works full time but carp pay) and it really makes the difference between struggling and not so it's really worth fighting for, both for yourself and the other poor souls in your position - you'll be a local hero!

I am sure my gravestone will say "here lies VJsmum - who coped".

I think that'll be on mine too and the same probably goes for many of us on here - maybe we could get a nice MSE bulk buy discount?:)

Just had a good meeting with our fantastic Inclusion Officer about organising a CAF for DD. One of the things she suggested was having DD assessed by the disabled child team as they have more funding for support available but I guess I just find it hard to attach that label to DD, we've managed until now by saying she has additional needs as it doesn't sound so bad but if there is support there that she is entitled to then I think we need to access them as it is not getting any easier. Although she is making progress it's so slow that physically she is falling further and further behind her peer group. The DLA form is going in tomorrow after I have copied it all to keep for my records.

To top it all off MIL is waiting on the results of some tests for stomach pains that have been rushed through, t's the big Urgent on the top of the forms that has us all worried and the fact that she only went to the docs for the first time about 3 weeks ago and she's already had 4 different lots of tests. Trying to look on the bright side - it was a very green young doc and we hope he's just over reacted. :o

VJsmum I'm thinking of you and your family and hope your Dad is doign better when you get there.

PAH I am livid on your behalf. Add me to the list of people who is behind you all the way. Don't let them get away with this. Arm yourself with all the info you can and shout from the rooftops if you have to. I don't have a pitchfork, but I do have a garden fork if that would help.

I just wanted to reassure you lovely ladies that I now have a suitable amount of toilet paper and tinned tomatoes in the house. Not up to GQ's level, but enough for now.
Tonight I'm going out to dinner with DH as it is my friend Emma's birthday. So we are going to an all you can eat place. There goes watching my fat and sugar intake. Thankfully DS1 and DS2 are happy to stay at home with a Dominos pizza brought using a BOGOF voucher. I'd be happy to stay at home too if the weather forecast is to be believed, but I have to show willing.
I need to make some banana cake this afternoon and work out what sticky, gooey, sugar and cream laden delight I'm going to make DH for Valentine's Day. It generally has to be lemon based to keep him happy and I'm running out of fresh ideas. He would he very happy with a lemon roulade, but I'm tired of making them. He would be even happier if I made him one a week.
Time for lunch as DH has just walked in the door.....bye everyone, take care xxxx

SCRABBLE: I have always taken all the meat off chicken even before I started reading these forums etc. And throwing one day opened food away is beyond belief, but like you say, it's nothing to do with you. If they want to waste money, that's up to them. I'm flabbergasted though.

Well done on the CS bargains.

STILTWALKER: Hope your MIL is okay and the doctor has just overreacted.
You need to take all the help you are offered for your daughter though I know that it is hard to accept some times especially when there are labels attached. Just putting a name to one of my health issues made me cry even though the pain was already there and wasn't going to change because of the name iykwim. And it's always worse when it is your child.

VJ's mum Thinking of you (((hugs))).

kidcat Hope you are feeling much better today.

Everyone who has problems and worries, (((Hugs))) and I hope things will pick up for you all soon.

My DH is off to the Dr tonight too, as he has not been feeling himself. We are getting to that age where health is becoming a bit of an issue. Sometimes, it all seems to get the better of us, but my DH just says, I'll look after you and you can look after me.

How lovely it would be to be young again. Although looking at the way this world is going, I'm not sure whether I would cope. Today it has taken me nearly two hours to type a letter, fill in 2 short and very basic forms and type the envelope:eek: I would have done that in a quarter of the time a few years back. It doesn't help that my typing has deteriorated, due to the strange behaviour of my keyboard and a sore finger. Still haven't put anything in the envelope yet and I need to go out and post it today. Sometimes I think someone has sped up time [STRIKE]or maybe it's me slowing down[/STRIKE]:o

I hope we don't have too much snow tonight, I think it is so cold at the moment. I used to really love the snow and I still think it looks pretty (until the slush starts) but I usually always manage to fall over. Oh well......

Have a lovely day everyone and keep warm!:)

Just had to go and bring OH home, good job he's only working just up the road. I went out to get something from the Armageddon cupboard and thought "What's that noise like running water?" The supply pipe at the back of the sink in the garden, that runs into the farmers field behind, had frozen off, and thawed. Mains pressure water firing out everywhere! Blooming good job I've been in and out all day, as otherwise that could have flooded and frozen. Comparatively 'warm' at 2 degrees here ;) but feels even colder than it did at -5 yesterday...maybe cos' I was soaked after trying to reattach pipe myself! Done some of my paperwork and am going to reward myself with casting on my knitting!
