I would second the idea of getting a woodburner if you can manage it to anyone thinking of doing so. We installed a Clearview Inset Stove 3 years ago, that means it fits into the fireplace recess instead of sitting forward of it on the hearth. It is without doubt the best thing we have ever done to improve the house. We haven't run the central heating since we had it put in and only use the boiler to heat the water twice daily. The house is toasty warm and I even have a wide shelf at the top of the fire that I use to cook on, can make soda bread, heat water for drinks, mull our homemade cider etc. A warning though, you'll get obsessed with the wood supply, we now have most of the old decking from our local pub and anyone who lops a tree locally always asks if we have room to take it. It is such FUN!

Ive had woodburners/open fires for years, we could have a fire put in here but we opted for a nice woodburner lookalike but on mains gas, its really lovely........Its ok having woodburners if you can get your wood for free, but if you have to buy it its a very expensive form of heating, its too much for me these day to swing an axe like I use to do, so I just click a button and get real flames...:D.......

Can anyone tell me where I can find out about all the abreviations that are used on here, im reading away then I get something that is abreviated and on some words im completely stuck and havent got a clue what certain words mean??.....Would be so helpful, surely im not alone not knowing.??.....Im sorry to hear so many of us are down/ill/not happy, im sure if it was March time most of our problems wouldnt seem so bad, chins up.....:)

    Just popping in to say

Well done on the no smoking PIC. :T
Sorry you are healing slowly scrabbles. :(
    And welcome back Rosanna. :hello:

I've been a bit under the weather today so have had the laziest of days. :o Wrapped up in front of the fire with my knitting and books and being waited on by OH. :A Need to find some energy from somewhere to get the gardening done.

Rosanna, it's lovely to meet you. Loved your story of the cat; I hope he can stay with you, it seems as if he has chosen you. :)

I feel embarrassed to say I have a wood burner but have not used it. But like Shegar says, wood is expensive unless you can get it for free. Next door neighbour has a boyfriend who got her loads of pallets but none were offered to me.

Shegar I don't know if there is a thread for abbreviations; which ones do you want to know? I have often thought I knew an abbreviation only to find out it was something different!

Sorry about all the black dogs in this thread. i'm sure it has something to do with the winter, even though we've had a pretty mild one so far. I'd like it to be very mild for 3 days from 7th Feb in Wales as DS is going on his first school trip and I'm going to be worried enough as it is!
Well done for the smoking-stoppers, and Scrabbles, sorry you've had to miss another week of work, but better than going back before you're ready and setting yourself back completely.
I'm so glad this week is over, it's been a hard one. Next week looks pretty bad too so I've kept next weekend completely free as it will be wipeout time.
And confession time, I was very unfrugal in Tesco today and bought all kinds of scrummy treats i shouldn't have. Maybe food is my own kind of black dog eh?

    Evening everyone :)

VJsmum I hope you have a good visit with your Dad and that he is feeling himself again asap :)

I wanted to let you know that I really appreciate the hugs and good wishes a lot. I'm sorry I'm not alone in feeling bleugh and I hope you all see an improvement in your mood soon ((((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))))))))))
Zumba was definitely high impact and I've had a headache since finishing it, but I made it there and back and did do the class. I might do aquafit instead and work up to Zumba when my blood pressure is more stable.

February 4th is National Libraries Day and I know that the libraries in Leicester are giving free DVD, CD and Talking Book rentals to every member on that day. It might be worth seeing if your local ones are doing anything similar. I'm planning on taking the whole family along and getting 4 DVDs which will save us £8-12.

There are a few people who I would like to make wax effigies of, but the thought of it coming back three fold puts me off. I just sit and wait for Karma to bite them in the butt in the form of great big itchy boils. *insert angel/halo smilie here please*

Time to see what the pizza dough is doing and to make some toppings. I figure it has to be healthier than calling Dominos.

    Take care xxxxx
