Am exhausted - pantomimes are such hard work!!:rotfl::rotfl:

Especially with a group of ASd kids, one sat terrified under the seat, another proposed to the leading lady - loudly:rotfl:, mine covered his ears, another kicked off - something to do with shoes and so it went on. :D

Came home and was expecting at least one person to comment on haircut - not a one has noticed:mad:.

Did manage to pop into Mr A and just buy exactly what I went for :D

Oh I didn't know there was a wool shop where you are Mrs Chip... might have to drag DD along there one day soon. She's made a new years resolution not to buy any new clothes but apparently that doesn't include buying wool if she decides to knit herself something! I wondered if there was a decent knitting shop around. I know there's one in Aber, and she has some lovely fairtrade stuff, but it's a bit of a hike.

Went to Mr T late this afternoon and did stick to the list...apart from a bag of onions reduced to 50p which will always get used, and some reduced sausages! Funny things going on...cheapest spuds were the organic ones the 2k bags were on offer at 2 for £2.00...all the rest were 58p a Kilo. Also the basics washing powder had shot up to over £2.50 a bag....Blooming 'eck :eek:it was about £1.80 last time I checked, but still think it's the cheapest one there.

Dogs are bored rigid being indoors for these last few days, but they weren't going to walk were they, not when I had to physically heft them out into the garden for a wee :DI've taken them out before and if they don't like the weather they just refuse to walk, and drag me back to the car! They won't stop barking at me tonight, and I've just had to bribe them with chews... ;)

I've spent most of today doing battle with something I wrote a while back...my frugal cookbook, which I need to sort out and finish. Also doing battle with the darn printer!!! I've been asked to teach a cookery class, which I think I mentioned before, and I was planning on using my existing stuff as a base for it, I just need to go over it all, set myself a 'plan' to finish of the recipe writing (I know what's going in it - just need to jot it down with some measurements as I never measure normally) and print some of it off. It's not a bad job for a horrid day but I struggled a bit this morning - my printer hates me!

It's called Janes, Kate, and it's on the road out through town towards H'west. Linky

It's one of the few good shops we have left, it needs all the support it can get!

    Ooohh No!! :(

I've just bought 4 bowls of Christmas pate (whoopsied at 50p each from £2.99 :money:) and was planning on freezing it :(. Does anyone else freeze pate? What's the worst that can happen if I do? Damn!!

No IGNORE ME!! I looked it up afterwards and you can freeze it, apparently you just have to use it up quicker once you defrost it as it doesnt last very long once it has been got out again.

So that solved my problem today and it all went in the freezer lol!

All being well we will be able to collect the van on Saturday, so time to start seriously thinking about the menu - any ideas what people might buy from a F&C van that is home-made? We need a USP!

We have a sandwich van and homemade sausage rolls (with a high ratio of sausage meat) sell well, BUT they work out more expensive than buying them in. We have tried lots of other things - homemade pies, homity pies, quiche, but they haven't sold well and they can't be reused so they are wasted, or we have to eat them. You soon get sick of eating pie if you have to! We've found bought in cornish pasties sell well and we can sell them for a reasonable price. We're in a relatively well to do area but still people are very price-sensitive, and what you really don't want to do is commit yourself to slogging away making something you can't make a profit on, so choose carefully. All our sandwiches and baguettes are made fresh every morning and they sell relatively well. Make sure you do your costings before you put anything on the van as it's hard to change the price once you've just started. Good luck!

Oooohhhh...I'll get my coat! Thanks for that it looks FAB. The haberdashery stall in Cardi Market is OK for a few bits and bobs...but I yearn for a good poke round a craft shop. Maybe I'll kidnap the other DD on her day off too and bring both of them. Older DD made us some lovely Xmas tree decorations as part of her HM pressies, felt owls and pineapples, very nice. You had a lovely crystal/fossil shop a couple of years ago, but I noticed it had closed last time I passed through.

Thanks P, that's really helpful. I think I will make our own fishcakes rather than buying in, as the ones from wholesalers are rubbish. We are going to sell 'proper' sausages from the butcher rather than the usual nasty ones in chipshops. It will mean less margin, but will sell a little bit dearer and that they are 'local' - people here are very keen to buy local and good quality, and advice is that they will pay a bit more.

I have done my pricing, and compared with local chipshops, so hope I have the prices right!

Out of interest where are you going to be selling Mrs Chips?

I agree that people will pay a bit more for a decent sausage...I know I will :D

Are you going to do something like HFW's Mackeral Baps? 'cos if you are selling to the touristy types they'll probably know all about The Fish Fight, and sustainable fish. I'd LURVE to have access to some local fish.
