witchywoo - always knocks me for six when someone damages the car, weeks ago someone smashed our back headlight while I was parked just for the fun of it!!
If you have fully comp insurance autoglass will come out to you and are supposed to clean it up properly too, only costs the excess rather than full window price. Saying that in our old old house we had the side window put in that many times we got the name of a local guy who used to call past scrap yard collect window and fit it all for less than the excess so its worth looking at. The last time dad fitted it for us as we had seen it done so many times!!!
We havent got fully comp, but hubbys going to ring scrap yard on Tuesday and see if they have one, hubby was a mechanic before he got ill, so we have decied he tell me what to do ie he sits in car and directs while i do the manual bit ...how hard can it be :DWWP nobody was hurt though, you werent in it at the time, just hang onto that. And now the only way is up - things will get better xxx
Thank you mardatha for putting it in perspective i needed that your a :A
And thank you for all your kind words everyone , i feel better now i have a plan with hubby i think it was just the intal '' how the hell do i deal with this'' shock when i first posted as hubbys illness means he cant do much. Along with how do we afford this
massive hugs to everyone xx0 -
witchywoo - if you go to the scrap yard without your husband and play the helpless female, quite often they will fit it for you for a few pounds!! Depends on their skill level but it does really help being able to play the little lady role.0

Realised I hadn't replied to your postso thank you - it's hard breaking old habits/patterns but hopefully worth it in the end!
Trouble is I come across as quite confident so no-one realises I'm actually really shy and worry about how I come across to other people. Still it's all about practise and getting out and meeting people in order to make new friends.
I wondered what people's thoughts were on the WI as I was thinking of going along. My OH reckons that at 34 I'll be the youngest there (which would be a novelty!) but I think it would be good to meet some like-minded people and hopefully I could learn a lot too.
ETA, Witchwoo, meant to say, what a pants start to the new year but it sounds like you are being really resourceful and hopefully with your OH's instructions you will be able to fix it. Good luck, hope it goes well!0 -
Hi all, just popping in to say Happy NewYear, lovely to see so many posting now, keep it up, strength in numbers and all that!
Taurus (and anyone else with health issues) good luck and good health in 2012.
Witchwoo, what a pain, but it is sortable- hopefully without too much expense.
Quiet NewYear here so far, no real resolutions except to get outside in the fresh air as much as possible - managed about 15 mins between the showers today - and to try to stay positive. Income is likely to stay the same or decrease, so will be coming on here regularly for tips and support.
Thanks to everyone for contributing in 2011.0 -
Just popping by quickly to wish everyone a very happy 2012. It's just a flying visit as the arm is not great and scrolling and clicking are the worst). I haven't caught up and at the rate you lot chat I have no hope!:D;)
I hope everyone is well and doing ok ... and if not that things turn around soon.
Love and hugs to all,
Nuala xxx
P.S. WWP - so sorry to hear about your car. I am glad you and your DH are safe and weren't in it and I hope this is the "bad stuff" out of the way and things get better and better from here on. x
P.P.S Mardatha - all I can say on reading your gas story is :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek: It's a miracle you lived to tell the tale with a neighbour like that! You crack me up all the same, you know how to tell a good story! Hope you're doing ok. xTrying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

kidcat - yes you can freeze cooked salmon
wwp - bummer re the window. I've done a window replacement yonks ago in similar circumstances, ie under instruction, and it was OK. Just stay calm and take it slowly. Apart from the scrapdealer it might be worth asking if the place you get your car serviced would fit it for you."Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass...it's about learning how to dance in the rain." ~ Vivian Greene0 -

Hubbys disabled and uses car when he is well enough to go out, i had such high hopes for the new year but now feeling so down, hubby went to go out to see his mum and dad and some lovely sod has smashed our drivers side window, cue me trying to clean up glass from everywhere outside and inside car, tarp up the window and all this in the pouring rain i got cold wet and misable and really wish people wouldnt do this to other peoples thingsand i cant help worrying that i may have missed some glass somewhere ) So now it just feels like lord help us if this is how our year starts
Sorry for being a moan bag
I'm so sorry that happened. I guess the plus side is it wasn't stolen, but the inconvenience, the shock and the cost of course is just so unfair. I don't understand what someone gets out of doing mindless acts of violence. :A
And please don't apologise for having a moan, other wise I will feel guilty too.as she goes on to moan...
My DD as some may know is with her dad for the long holidays. Back along he was talking her into having laser surgery on her eyes. After lots of advice from me and downloading stuff for her to look at , pointing out it could be painful, etc (which she threw away), she has just now sent me a text saying she is going to have it done. I assume over the next week or so which means he will keep her with him for longer, part of his plan to take her from me. (he took everything else)
I can't tell her I'm happy about the surgery; because I'm not. She has health issues beside the ASD. I'm genuinely concerned and not being an over protective mum (well, maybe I am?!)...and I know I need to let go more, but she has needed me for so long, letting go is hard. I keep thinking if I let go, disaster will happen (because in reality it does), and I'm balancing numerous plates to make sure she is well and happy. At great cost to myself I know, but she is my life.
Well I'm going to watch Sherlock and put things out of my mind for a while.edit to add: it is just sooooooo good and love the music!
Is it just me that thinks Sherlock was an Aspie? (Asperger's)0 -

Hi Katep, I'm very shy, well I'm not like I was when younger, I can blag with the best of them now :rotfl: , but I do know what it's like to worry about being social. I think you should give the WI a try, you may well be the youngest but so what?! If you enjoy it, you will bring a new perspective. If you don't enjoy it, then don't go again (although try a few times maybe). I was the oldest when I went to uni a couple of years back to get a degree; even older than the lecturer's, bar one and he was 80, but good fun!). So, age is just a number. :A0 -
