Good to see you back Taurus. Hope 2012 is a good one for you.
Trust there aren't too many hangovers today. We went to bed right after watching the London fireworks on TV. Today is wet and miserable, so we're sitting watching The Wizard Of Oz (again!).
We had roast chicken for lunch, so I'm going to practise my stretching skills I think. I don't think I usually waste too much but some OSers seem to made their chickens last forever lol. After today's roast I'm planning something like a pasta bake tomorrow and a chicken and leek pie another day. I'm hoping there will also be enough bits left for lunch rolls one day this week.
We haven't taken the decorations down yet - it's only the tree, cards and a wreath on the door, but I think we'll leave them until Friday. I love the twinkling tree lights, they give the room such a cosy feel on these grey afternoons.0 -
It took me EIGHT HOURS to catch up with this thread. Whoops! That was a day out the window.
I'm new to posting though have lurked for ages. This is by far my favourite thread, very funny.
I'm knackered today, got to bed really late after the lads across the road finished their party and decided to recycle all the bottles at 2:30 am... that was the point I did yell across the road at them like a crazy lady. Then got up because I'd promised to pick up a freecycled bookcase. On my bicycle. I have a trailer, so it's not quite as insane as it sounds, though it didn't feel all that well-balanced, if you'll excuse the turn of phrase, once I discovered that the place I was picking it up from was a village half an hour's cycle ride out of town. Luckily the nice lady lent me a hammer and a screwdriver and I could disassemble it. But it was still sodding heavy to haul all the way back. Sat down for a cup of tea and a quick read of the boards... three hours later...
On the upside all the shops are closed so no temptations!
Hi Bupster! I have been thinking how, if I'm lucky enough to get a freezer from Freecycle how I would get it home in my car! You have given me a whole new perspective. Hope it wasn't raining where you are!0 -
Hi Byatt! Didn't start raining till I got back, luckily. Halfway home I was really beginning to enjoy it, an hour's solid cycling is proper exercise, after all, and certainly the first I've taken since the Christmas season started! I had an emergency stash of those elastic thingies with the hooks on the end but if you were trying to get a freezer they might not do the trick
I have in the past carted home seven foot Christmas trees (pushing, not cycling) and on one memorable occasion before the trailer, cycled home with an entire hoover strapped to the back rack with the various hoses emerging from the panniers. I looked like I was being chased by a very long alien.Grocery challenge September 2022: £230.04/£200

Well done; you sound very resourceful! :rotfl:at the alien...
I do recall back in the day, going food shopping on a moped, well not through the store,:rotfl:, but on the way home, I was loaded down with bags and the pannier thing on the back was full, when a bag split... apples and such went rolling down the road!0 -
Glad you are back tauras, it really lifted me to see your name as I scrolled down.
Just had a text from my best friend she is in the hospital delivery suite awaiting a room!! I am so excited and scared for her she is having identical twins, she is my age (so only just this side of 45) this is her first pregnancy (IVF) has high blood pressure and is classed as obese, so parayers and thought in this directions will be greatly received.
Oh sending all the healing thoughts and prayers her way, am so very happy for her,Need to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch

I made my HM butter from the whoopsied cream yesterday - OMG I am SO impressed! I got 3 12oz packages and one 1lb package of butter from 4 X 600ml pots of double cream - which cost me 40p a pot, and I've got 600ml of buttermilk to use in something baked. I made three lots and saved the last batch to show DD no. 1 when she arrived, as I knew she'd be impressed (she was!) I so often see cream whoopsied, so will definitely do this again. OH who is a bit lactose intolerant was looking at it askance, but I'm going to cut it into 100g chunks and freeze it, and I'll probably mainly use it for baking.
Can I ask how you did it, I know it has been posted on here before but admit to lazy to read back. I got 4 600g whoopsied double cream on Thursday for 29p each which we have had in coffee with tot of whisky in it twice a day since then ( well we both keep feeling a bit bunged up and slight sore throats so it is medicinal :rotfl::rotfl:) by next day feel ok then back by the evening and I want to have a go at butter before its all gone and before it goes off but keep forgetting to ask.
ThanksNeed to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch

A man goes to his GFs family on Christmas Day. All was well until the brussels worked their magic and the young man got wind. Unable to contain himself he tried to sneak one out but it wasn't the silent one he had hoped for... Parppppppp... The GFs Dad shouted "Buster!!!" at the dog.
Thinking he had got away with it, the man let another one go and this time it was much louder and the aroma was shocking... PARRRRPPPPPP.... once again the GFs father shouted "BUSTER!!!!!"
Feeling rather pleased with himself at being able to pass wind regardless of being in the same room as his future in-laws with no recriminations the man trumped again even louder, and even smellier than the one before.....
"BUSTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Yelled the Dad... "Get away from that man before he !!!!!! all over you!!!"
Just catching up with everybody & having read Frugal's joke I most say that I haven't laughed so much for ages.
Called into Asda this morning & the large tins of Jacob's biscuits for cheese have been reduced down to £2.50 from £5.00. Bought one as they are in date until October 2012. Still have the one I bought for Christmas but couldn't resist at this price.
I'm visiting a friend in Yorkshire & Fulton's, a local chain selling frozen food & groceries, has 800g tins of plum tomatoes at 3 for £1.00. Hope this helps someone.0 -
Welcome back Taurus.
I wish everyone & happy & healthy new year:)Try to be a rainbow in someone's cloud.0 -
Happy New Year everyone!
Taurus - glad you are feeling well enough to post again, and that you were in your own home for christmas.
Katie - very envious of your butter, it's one of the things I absolutely object to paying the current price for (what on earth is the justification for it doubling in price in less than two years???). I have been stalking our local coop who have stacks of D cream on their shelves, already a bit reduced, but not enough to make it worthwhile buying for butter. I got some single for 23p a pot, but yet to catch the D cream 'window' grrrr. Will try again tomorrow, I am determined to make some!:rotfl: .
NYE little party with neighbours went well. Thankfully no singing required as no-one else had prepared a 'turn'. They don't know
what a lucky escape they had! five out of six of us managed to make it to midnight, and as one of the party normally retires bed at 9pm (even on NYE) and he was still up at gone 1am, I think a good time was had by all.
Done nothing today apart from read here and eat choccies. Feel very bad, lots to get on with, but the weather is foul and I am totally de-mojo'd. Bum-kick required, this is no way to start a new year. I must start getting the garden in order for growing veggies, and there are several rooms that look like sets from Steptoe & Son that need attending to.
Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures0
