Thanks VJsmum. I have done the evoo now for three days. I'm actually quite excited about it. Sad ain't it? I usually just use baby lotion or avon cheapest moisturiser or such, so won't be saving a fortune but hoping for better skin. Have always washed with soap and water.
Sammy_Kaye, I'm full of a cold too. Horrible isn't it?
2011 went really fast. Every year I say this but I think 2011 broke the records.

Just popped in to update and wish you all a better year next year. 2011 was very tough for me (not financially yet) but healthwise.
I'd like to wish you all not only a prosperous new year but a healthy one.

Happy New Year to all "Toughies" :hello:
2012 may get even tougher
For many, it will get unsteadily rougher
But stick together; share advice,
Resolve to ditch any squandering vice.
Breathe deep and welcome it in with a cheer
For when all else fails, MSE friends are here

Mainly a lurker (and thanker!) but just wanted to pop in and wish all of you a very happy and healthy 2012. I don't have very high hopes for it, TBH, think it's gonna be a tough year, but we will survive with a little help from our friends - here and in the RW. You have all helped me so much, both with your tips and hints for ever more skillful frugality, but also with making me feel a lot less freakish. I have very, very little money compared with most of my friends and contemporaries, and make no secret of it - most of them are wonderfully accepting (and hugely generous - I look forward to the day I can repay them in some way) but a small minority almost visibly move away when I tell them that all my clothes (except underwear!!) come from charity shops, that I mainly buy 'whoopsied' food, etc.
So ... thank you one and all, and the warmest wishes for a very happy new year - one in which I hope we will not just survive, but thrive. Love, the cake xxx0 -
Just popped in to say hi and DH survived the attack of the killer cheese :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
I have lived in some really rough parts of the country but the community spirit was exceptional and now I live in snobs village they would not help you if you were on fire!!
I remember a few years back there was a homeless European man who used to sit on the church steps in town where I worked. Everyone complained about him but I would walk past and smile. As time went on I would stand and have a natter (through broken English) and then I would sit and have a fag with him and leave him with a couple for ron. Everyone moaned at me for encouraging him, but he was a very interesting bloke and I liked our little chats which helped me unwind before walking home. I would do little food parcels for him and he would always have a story to tell. One day my daughter who was only 13 was walking back from the pics with her friends (daytime) and some teenage louts started picking and pushing them, they were drunk out of their tiny heads and she was scared to death.
The homeless man jumped up and chased them all off and said to my daughter that he knew me and she should get off home straight away. Other people in the street stood by and did nothing, so I am very grateful to him and I hope he is still well as I did not get chance to see him before I moved
I know this is not always the case and there are some rare people out there.
Still undecided on what to do tonight. Staying in is such a waste of having no kids but going out means spending money even if it is just on petrol or a glass of summat at the local

Just popping in to say thank you so much for all your replies and points of view. I hope that it was just a minor blimp on my sister's part and down to her just not thinking.
Happy New Year everyone xxxx0 -
Well 2011 was a bit of a difficult one, starting with mum's funeral and then the fallout of dealing with her death (and the effect that had on me mentally). We have turned our lives upside down as a result and that has brought it's own stresses.
I am hoping that 2012 will bring a new phase in our lives, and that once our business is up and running my negativity will be replace by optimism.
We are spending the evening with neighbours, Mr & Mrs OG and the couple over the road who are in their 80's. We are in our early 50's but we usually have a great time when we get together.
It has been suggested that we each do a 'turn' during the evening. OH has learned a couple of card tricks, and I have learned a song:eek:. I have not sung in public since I was 11, my voice is what I would call 'rustic' but I will give it a go.
Meal will be a mish-mash of food left from Christmas and stuff from the freezer, and drink that did not get drunk. So nice an OS!
I hope everyone has a great evening whatever they are doing (Byatt, don't go looking for that cat, it will know!), and pray that 2012 exceeds all our expectations of it.
And for the welsh contingent - Blwyddyn Newydd Dda !!!Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures0 -
Happy new year one and all
Also welcome to the new people (sorry cannot remember everyone)
I think next year will be tough but I am sure we will get through it:)
