Wishing all of you health, wealth and happiness in 2012.

I'll match you with health and happiness - wealthy is an overrated concept and I'll stick with two out of three!

    Happy new year everyone :D

  • Just want to wish everyone here a peaceful and contented New Year. 2011 was a toughie for us, emotionally and mentally, due to the death of a much loved parent. Please God, worl, mother nature et al, please let 2012 not be another year of loss and sadness.

I'd like to add my thanks to everyone for all the advice and tips throughout the year.
There's a possibility I will either be made redundant or have to take a lower grade job in the next few months, which is a bit of a worry, but I'm trying not to think about it! If I do lose my job, we will have about £100 a month, after all bills including food are paid, to run the car and do everything else, so I'll really have to tighten that belt a few notches further!! If I have to take a lower grade job, I hopefully won't lose too much money as I only work part-time, but we don't earn a lot between us anyway so there's not a lot of leeway. As you can see, I've hardly given it any thought at all!
Anyways, all the best to you all for 2012.

I dont have alot of support in RL, but I know I can come on here and ask for help or advice and it will be given. Also I know I wont be looked down upon for the way I live.:)

This is exactly how I feel - I have no family support (that is what upsets me the most at this time of year) but do have 2 excellent friends in RL. But I do feel I have overused them somewhat during the last 5 years series of disasters that has been my life, although they don't see it like that. Sometimes it is brilliant to come here instead. One also thinks my MSE ways are a little odd :rotfl: but I'm wearing her down slowly...

Byatt - I think we all start off with lots of resolutions - I know I do. For years I've pledged to sort my life out....
I thought your line about your ex & the light in your eyes was so eloquent & I prey it comes back to you.

I agree with those who feel that it will get tougher next year. Financially I'm OK just now, with some savings, but I can't see that I'll be employed again for a long time (but still looking) so I'm planning for not working again long term as my worst case scenario, which is a bit  but with all I contnue to learn on MSE I'm confident I can eke out those savings for even longer.

To those with colds - I swear by chucking a few cloves of garlic into a glass of OJ & leaving it to "brew" for an hour or so, then removing the cloves & knocking it back. I often munch on the cloves, but then I have no OH to consider :D

Littlecal - sounds like 2012 could be your year for a new life - good luck. I'm an ex-Brummie & still love the city, it was one of the friendliest places I've ever lived in.

PIC - I agree with you about people being nicer in the less posh areas, & your story is telling. Thank goodness it had a happy ending. I too, am home on NYE with no kids & it does seem like a waste :rotfl:

But I'm celebrating getting lots of cooked meat from Ms for 25p/pack. Can't believe people will pay £1.94 for 4 slices of corned beef  - madness. Got the fizz open already, lots of cheese & meat, then teeny squidgy choc puds to finish. Somehow I don't think I'll make midnight.

Best wishes to everyone for 2012
And I find that looking back at you gives a better view, a better view...

Byatt you have just solved my New Year's Eve pudding dilemma:T What with my dodgy stomach I hadn't got round to thinking about puddings. Do you just peel the nectarines, sprinkle them with everything else and then bake? If so, what temp and for how long?

Here's the recipe from Waity's web site:

I just ate some of mine with creme fraiche, and they were yummy. I didn't peel mine; they skin seemed to disintergrate quite a bit. I used cinnamon as I said, and it worked for me. :)
Roasted Nectarines with Ginger and Brown Sugar

Preparation time: 5 minutes Cooking time: 40 minutes to 60 minutes Total time: 45 minutes to 1 hour 5 minutes 60minutes.png5minutes.png
    Serves: 6
    Ingredients

    • 6 nectarines, halved and stoned
    • 2.5cm cube of ginger, peeled and grated
    • 175g soft dark brown sugar
    • Juice of 1 lime

    Method

    1. Preheat the oven to 190°C, gas mark 5. Put the nectarines in a bowl with the ginger, sugar and lime juice. Mix together to coat the nectarines, then place cut-side up in an ovenproof dish where the nectarines can lie in a single layer.
    2. Pour 75ml cold water around the fruit and bake for 30-40 minutes. (How long it takes depends on how ripe your fruit is – ripe fruit cook faster, hard fruit can take up to 60 minutes.) If the nectarines look pale, sprinkle over more sugar in the last 10 minutes of cooking. Serve chilled or at room temperature, with crème fraîche or ice cream.

  • I never make new years resolutions, but that is because i dont keep resolutions and then i beat myself up about failing yet again. Tomorrow will herald the beginning of a new year, and hopefully a less emotioanlly fraught one for me and mine, please god. I aim to live more simply, make my life more beautiful by focussing on the things and the people that are most important to me, by findimg beauty in everyday things, moments etc. counting my blessings, if you will.

Ive been trying to do this, embracing the simple things in life etc, but i hope to make a far more concerted effort.
