Am in dog house - have cremated mince pies!!:o:o:o

Am so exhausted and trying to remember everything I forgot them ooops

Oh well, will just have to squeeze more in for tomorrow.

Off to wrap presents now will a bottle of wine for fortication! Any I miss am sending to dad - have admitted defeat its so hard to be able to wrap presents when there is always four kids here. Old houses always had huge bedrooms which I could lock myself into and wrap, unfortunately in this house there isnt enough to swing a cat (OH has tried!!) and no way to wrap anything more than smaller stuff.

I'm on the home straight now with getting ready. Pressies are wrapped, decorations and tree are up, ham for Christmas day tea is done, only another dozen mince pies to make, which I'll do tomorrow.

Tomorrow's plan involves cleaning the bathrooms and making mince pies and a coffee and walnut cake for taking to DDs on Boxing day.

Downstairs was all cleaned through yesterday and I don't intend letting anyone upstairs so [STRIKE]can't be ar*ed [/STRIKE] don't see the need for frantic cleaning up there.

For the first time in more years than I care to remember I am NOT doing Christmas dinner!:D:D:D. We are going to friends for lunch. The in-laws are coming to us for tea but that will just be cold ham/salad type stuff so no major stress there. We are then over at DDs for Boxing Day.

I think/hope I'm going to have a relatively relaxed time this year. Bring it on!...................Would it be wrong to open my second bottle of wine since Tuesday?

Hope you all have a peacefull and happy Christmas and build yourselves up for whatever 2012 brings us.
  • Happy birthday Mar - hope it was a good one. I'm still so jealous of your grocery home delivery - so hoping it comes to the west coast eventually - we live between two tescos - 100 miles apart - so fingers crossed we get one in the middle!

Taurus hope you're comfy and keeping your chin up - you're in my thoughts.

Had a busy day today, made our christmas cake (vegan so needs to be made near the day), will marzipan and ice tomorrow. Spent an hour with a neighbours young children at tea-time which was fun - ker-plunk anyone???? I wasn't expecting them so unprepared, must get some more wee games out of the loft for other visits, they're just the right age now. Tomorrow i'll collect the meat from the butchers early and then spend the day knitting and pottering until carols from Kings on radio 4 at 3pm.

    Have a great christmas everyone,

    WCS

Hi Taurus, hope you are doing ok- hugs to you.

Had a nice day, been to Mums and nipped in Mr S for cat litter for Dd's pair of crazy moggies. Was tad irritated at Mums, Big Bro's evil wife demanded we visit but when I heard they all had really bad colds I declined as the last thing we need is OH getting sick so close to his operation date. Anything thats a minor illness to us knocks him for 6 as many of you guys on here will understand with your ME, Fibromyalgia etc. Anyway Bro totally understood and dropped pressies off at Mums. Anyway SIL wasnt going to be in as she was having her nails done ( to sit in the house for 2 days???) but we could have gone and stood at the bl**dy door she said - OMG  where does her stupidity end, both of us stand at the door like a pair of misfits in the pouring rain - rant over, just had to get it off my chest. :o Of course thats the difference, on here you all understand where I am coming from :)

Ginnyknit, you're right, she sounds like a real nutjob.

Mardatha, I hope you got all the sweeties you wanted for your birthday.

Taurus, if you're around I hope things have improved for you, still thinking of you.

My plans for Christmas eve are as follows:
Have banana smoothies and choccy spread on toast for brekkie
Pull buffet stuff out of freezer for tonight
    Have a baileys
    Make some brandy butter
Sample the brandy butter on a mince pie
Visit the Grandparents with their gifts, have a sherry
No idea what lunch is, but there's beer in the fridge.
Figure out a dessert for tonight.
    Afternoon nap.
Visit the supermarket an hour before closing, buy deli counter items (always half price at that time)
Welcome the inlaws with buffet and vodka cocktails
Drink 2 glasses of water before bed *hic*

I hope everyones Christmas is as merry as it can be.
    Love

Peaches?? SDG, do tell! I usually do my ham just with a mustard and demerea sugar glaze after boiling it with onion, orange, lemon, cloves and black peppercorns.

It's my DMIL's recipe. You boil the ham as normal, stud it with cloves and then pour over a mixure of pureed tinned peaches, brown sugar, mustard (She uses english, I use dijon) and lots of black pepper. Bake in a covered dish, spooning over the sauce every 15 minutes and then cook uncovered for a while until the sauce is sticky/glazed. Sorry I can't give quantities, but it's an add until it tastes right thing. It is meant to taste sweet with a background heat. I use less mustard than DMIL as we don't like it that much.

Forgot to say that you drain the peaches, don't use the syrup.

Softstuff, excellent plan for the day! I won 12 tins of Bacardi mixers ( god knows where from :rotfl:) and although I havent had but 1 drink in 3 years, out of choice btw, I am planning 1 can an hour through the day, well I do keep sneezing so medication is needed:cool:

SDG I like the sounds of adding tinned peaches to my usual recipe, may well try that with my next ham - and it adds to your one a day so it must be good for you:whistle:

Hooray, have finished the wrapping. Only took four hours, so definitely a new record!! Actually, my having wrapped before Christmas eve is the real record! Usually am up until at least three getting all done.

Not a drop of wine either, disadvantage of three storey house - you have to go downstairs for wine!!

Sorry Ginnyknit and i realise how infuriating it must be but this is quite :rotfl: - just the fact that this was suggested! Silly Cow! What planet are some people on?

Well, 5 hours or so till the onslaught. First loaf is in the BM. Soup for lunch is made, ham and quiche for tea are made (not today, I might add). Got the second loaf and some salads to make. I think my grand plan of cinnamon rolls for brekkie tomorrow is out due to time, so I'm glad i bought croissants and pains au chocolate. Puds today will be all the cakes, mince pies, chocolate log (which DD (15) made and is stunning - looks too good to eat, mind you the first attempt became chocolate brick and will end up as trifle sponge! :rotfl:).

Biggest jobs are to finish tidying the house and finish wrapping pressies - which i can see being left till tonight. Better find the kids stockings, too!

    Cup of tea first...
I wanna be in the room where it happens
