I made a note of Lady L's blackberry recipe as it uses less vodka than the way I usually do it, and appears to have the same results! Hoorah, even more frugal tipples
Wish I'd made some this year.
I did finally get round to decanting the plum hooch I made last year - I pr i cked the plums and put them in demijohns with sugar and booze and left, like sloe gin, for a while......it is VERY strong, tasty but oh my goodness, if you have a nip too many you certainly know about it in the morning!!0 -

GQ - I boil chickens in my (3.5l) SC. This means the meat is kept moist AND I get a batch of stock from the first cooking. You can always freeze the bones to make more stock later if you can't deal with two batches in one go. The chicken will probably fit better upside down. When boiling I add an onion, green bits of leek, celery leaves/outer stalks, peppercorns, parsley stalks, bay leaf and occasionally a tomato that is past it's best.0

I made the peanut butter balls today from a recipe here:
http://www.joyofbaking.com/candy/PeanutButterBalls.html
I made half the quantity, but reduced the size of the balls somewhat. I got 2 dozen balls which when coated in choccy were about 3/4 inch,so a big mouthful. They taste like Reeses Peanut butter thingies, so very nice indeed.
I also made some rocky road (just glace cherries, marshmallows and salted peanuts in chocolate) and some peppermint creams.
Would have done more but did my last grocery shop until after Christmas today and it was bedlam. I'll just need the odd bit of fresh fruit and veg now and that's it.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
GQ- here is the link to the Channel 4 page for the Superscrimpers Christmas programme. It's not yet on 4OD but says it will be. When it does come on I'll note the minute of the blackberry liqueur excerpt and edit this post.

ETA - the prog is now available at the above link - the blackberry liqueur recipe segment starts at minute 23"Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass...it's about learning how to dance in the rain." ~ Vivian Greene0 -
Morning everyone, it is freezing here very thick ice on the road and pavement so I wont be going out in that.
I get quite nervous on the ice as I fell last year and give my head quite a crack on the ice. I have some ice grippers for my shoes but still feel uneasy out there.
So will stay in and do some more cleaning, and some more cooking might give Softstuffs recipes ago.
Hope everyone is safe and warm

she keeps moaning we have no outdoor lights?
hubby keeps saying we poor, I tell her landlord wont allow it.
still baffled how they power them? is it battery?.
You can get solar powered outdoor lights - I know as bought a big string of lights to put on the tree ( a mini christmas tree I bought years ago and planted outdoors afterwards and is now over 10ft tall). I always wanted to put lights on it, but cannot afford the mains power and at first solar power lights were very expensive but slowly they are coming down in price, so last Jan picked up just one rope of them for £7.99 - hope to pick up another one next month again when they are selling off all Christmas things cheaper. You just put the lights on the tree and put the solar power panel into the ground facing south if you can, but any direction will do and it charges up during the day and so you have power for the lights at night - they do come with an on/off switch so you can turn they off . Because of the threat of high winds I have not actually put them on the tree yet.
At least with the solar power you know its not costing you anything to run them. I got mine in a garden centre, so have a look there, you never know they might have them on offer even now.
I know what you mean hoping your 5 year old still believes, its that innocence you don't want them to lose. She might have heard in school that ones you go to see is not the real one so how about having a chat with her and seeing if that is so then telling her well no its true because he is so busy, he has these friends help him out, but he will be there on Christmas Eve. Go to the site https://www.northpole.com where every Christmas eve they have a interactive map which shows the progress of father Christmas as he sets off around the world ( its run by Norad in USA and is totally free of charge to use) and all sorts of other activities.Need to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch

Lizzy, thanks for the info about Superscrimpers; I'm telly-less thru choice so won't be watching it unless they release the Greatest Hits DVD and stock it in the public library. I'd love to have the details of the recipe whenever; won't be making any until late-summer 2012 anyway.
!
You don't need a telly to watch it, you can what it on-line and you do not need a TV License either, you can watch all the tv programmes on-line quite legally so long as you do not watch any live ( then you need a license). I thought you had to have one to watch anything on-line but someone on the forum pointed out you don't so went to the TVL website and found its true( we do have a license as although I never watch TV, hubby does but I do watch the odd thing on laptop if I really want to see it)Need to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch
