Thank you for the good wishes everyone. I was insensitive posting about our good news when so many of us (myself included, its only a cushion and won't stretch far at all) are struggling. I was just so excited. my apologies :(

So the meetings that were held in Europe last week didn't do anything to stave this collapse off?

Thanks for explaining how it might effect us, in our homes, and practical ways how to avoid being stuck in the short term. Your worth your weight in gold - The Bank of Toughies - now that would never run into problems ;)

That wasn't insensitive. After all, we need hope...
I think everybody is so pleased for you and it is lovely to hear some good news.

Can you all remember that job that DH went for early last week? We have just found out he got it!!! The area manager has been on holiday so that's why the delay. We just thought he didn't get it!

It won't mean much in a pay rise but what it does mean is that DH gets a van and petrol paid for. No more worrying about the up keep of our car to get him to work and this is the best bit..... no more £200+ each month on petrol!

I can drive but won't be using it much at all, as i'm stingy with the petrol and I have done without it for 2 years now. It will make my life easier knowing it is there though. I'm so excited and so relieved. We now have a little cushion and that cushion will help me sleep that bit easier. I can pay off my gas arrears soon! :D

    Fantastic news:T

I am so glad for your good news :j:j - it is a present that will keep giving in the savings and lack of worry each month about transport.

    Wave Hello to skintmum

    prepareathome

DH has been "putting up with" my having a sack of potatoes, onions etc in the garage , tins in the cupboards and as much whoopsied meat in the freezer as I can get. Now he realises how much money is saved by doing this he is almost keener than me on the idea.

Nearly had a fit when I went into garage where freezer is and found huge puddle on floor today  After a lot of discussion DH thinks it is a leak in the garage itself rather than the freezer so fingers crossed.

The new curtains and thermal linings seem to be doing a great job in keeping the heat in the hall, dining room and living room. DH very impressed!!!

Just heard the tv news and it sounds as if weather is getting much worse all over the country in the next day or so.

Hotpot is simmering on the hob and sprouts in a seperate pan for DH (no one else likes them!)

  • Fuddle, please don't apologise it's so nice to hear a bit of good news in all this economic doom and gloom and we're all really pleased for you
Mardy: and everyone else north of the border (or close) stay safe in these awful winds. Sending good thoughts your way:o
I read that today about the battery hens needing good homes...it would be lovely if you could rehome some PIC.
    Normal people worry me.

I'm at over 900ft up and we get a lot of bad weather, been here 30 years. This is the worst storm I've ever been in and usually I enjoy Nature to the full but I'm seriously not liking this one at all!!

Oh fuddle - that's SUCH good news. No need to feel it was insensitive surely? From what I've seen of these boards everyone will be as pleased as punch for you, I can't see anyone begrudging you a bit of good news. Just in time for Christmas too! What a fab Christmas present for your family.
Well, just managed to finish the washing from our weekend away - how can two people generate 4 washloads in 3 days?:eek::eek::eek:. It's like a chinese laundry in here with stuff draped over the clothes horses in the hallway. Fortunately it's well ventilated in there as the front door doesn't fit properly:o:o. I think I'm going to have to resort to the tumble dryer for the towels though, otherwise they take an age to dry and then smell all musty.
So far the weather men seem to be being kind to us in their predictions. We have yellow alerts for wind/rain in the general area but the weather maps seem to show our little corner just missing the edges of it.
Thinking of you all North of us and hoping you all stay safe and warm. I so hope Mardy's hens keep safe too.
