Can you all remember that job that DH went for early last week? We have just found out he got it!!! The area manager has been on holiday so that's why the delay. We just thought he didn't get it!

It won't mean much in a pay rise but what it does mean is that DH gets a van and petrol paid for. No more worrying about the up keep of our car to get him to work and this is the best bit..... no more £200+ each month on petrol!

I can drive but won't be using it much at all, as i'm stingy with the petrol and I have done without it for 2 years now. It will make my life easier knowing it is there though. I'm so excited and so relieved. We now have a little cushion and that cushion will help me sleep that bit easier. I can pay off my gas arrears soon! :D

    Congratulations:beer:

Hi everyone, congrats Fuddle and DH's new job! Yayyy.

    skintmum, hi and welcome.

High winds and lots of rain here. My garden was rearranged during the night! Fields are flooded.

Why do banks say they will help if you are in difficulty but when actually asked say there's nothing they can do?! I've been on the phone to various companies and each one there's either a long wait for a reply or no reply at all. In this day and age of technology what's going wrong? I don't understand how money can be taken instantly but refunds and such take 2 weeks or more!!

I have some heat now; sold a few items on ebay and also got money from surveys. My daughter is helping out with vet bills for our dog which is a relief as she (the dog) is on monthly meds.

  • I have been worried about the wind as well. Last night I sat up in bed and remembered the house insurance on the house we rent out needed renewing. Luckily there are not many companies that do landlords insurance so comparing only took 30 mins and when I got the confirming email I went back to bed. No I could not wait til morning :o In my defence there has been no reminder.

Been peeling all the veg thats border bendy for a soup and have some eggs to use up so will have a little peek through some cook books.

The economy is sooooooo depressing but what worries me the most is no one ever comes clean about how bad things are so I know when I am reading anything it is probably ten times worse :(

I think DH and I will have to sit down and shave off any spending we probably can. I am not getting into debt at Christmas no matter how much the kids beg for things. I have to give credit to the boys as they have been a lot better this year and hopefully even better next year regarding being frugal.

We are seriously considering having chooks so may pass a chook each for them for xmas :D and coop between them from santa:rotfl:

Please keep posting peeps as I think you are the only ones keeping me afloat at the moment.

  • mardatha hoping you are ok, it sounds hellish what you are going through, keeping everything crossed that you come through this totally unscathed and that your hens are fine as well.

What they are saying about the banks well its been on the cards for ages hasn't it, been expecting it for a while now, its just amazing the Euro has stayed afloat this long. For those with money in the bank I would make sure you have some at home, as if a bank or two were to go down they might just close all banks for a few days to stop a run on them, and reopen then when things are a bit calmer, but they might stop you getting money from cash machines also, so at least if you do have some cash in the house you will be alright - as most shops would open if they can. Its also a good time to ensure you have a wee stock in to tide you over if you can do it ( hard I know if you are on benefits).

I know the government has promised to protect at least £85K ( if I remember rightly) of peoples savings but still might take a bit of time to give people their money. If you are unsure of what to stock up then pop over to the preparing for winter thread, lots of ideas there ( not just winter things).

    Stay safe and warm folks.

The battery hen welfare trust have been in touch with me this week, they are desperate for homes for Chooks as legislation changes in the New Year so (I think) battery hens will be no more, they have to use a new system. Just have a look on their website and see if any of the rehomers are near you and you will get lovely hens who lay lots of eggs and you will be helping with a big problem too.

Thank you for the good wishes everyone. I was insensitive posting about our good news when so many of us (myself included, its only a cushion and won't stretch far at all) are struggling. I was just so excited. my apologies :(

So the meetings that were held in Europe last week didn't do anything to stave this collapse off?

Thanks for explaining how it might effect us, in our homes, and practical ways how to avoid being stuck in the short term. Your worth your weight in gold - The Bank of Toughies - now that would never run into problems ;)
