Many of the Scottish Islands have Scandanavian roots and cultures. Many Islands on the west coat of Scotland have links and history with Ireland so I can see what he is saying. Being in England I don't really get to hear owt Salmond has to say but if Cameron said to me, lets link with the Scandanavian countries - weeeehey! I'd be up for that. They have it all sussed I think, the important parts anyway, like house insulating and feet on the ground with what is important.

Aaaah dreamig of the Northern Lights now. Anyone seen them?

    Morning

Jumbled my little heart out on Saturday. Even though I went to buy I ended up helping out but still managed to get a bag with wheels with extendible handle for DSS school trip, wellies, big quilted coat for going in the garden, three body warmers which I have been looking out for but were too expensive, a hand soap dispenser which is quite posh so no one will know I have 9p sainsbobs shampoo in them, and a few dresses. This was an expensive jumble though as items were 30p each instead of the usual 20p :rotfl:

I have a bowl full of limes (whoopsie 2p each) can I do a lemon meringue but with limes instead???

Jumble Sales - Jealous! I've not even seen one advertised for years! I used to love a good jumble sale!

Yes you can do lemon meringue with limes...it's exactly the same IIRC. I keep needing lemon zest for recipes, and I had a pile of naked lemons sitting here, I couldn't think of anything to do with them, but I've just juiced them all, I think I'll feed them to OH hot with honey as he's got manflu.

  • Imaginary dinner party ummmmmmmm Stephen fry maybe?

I always wished I could choose my neighbours and one side would definitely be Mr Miargi (however you spell it) the little Chinese man out of Karate kid, that way I could send the kids to "wax on, wax off" and they would come home worn out and quiet and learn how to polish :rotfl::rotfl:

I love my family dearly, but i really love Monday mornings when they have all gone out to school / work and i have the day off :T This is the last one till January 9th  so I am making the most of it :D

Actually i have a marathon of tidying to do since we put the tree up yesterday and there's tinsel and stuff all over the floor. I have the remaining christmas cards to write and then post and a bin ful of washing to get through. Maybe another coffee first though.

Have rather gone off Nick Clegg of late - but props to him for criticising Cameron yesterday, at least he isn't that much of a hypocrite.

Isn't it the next instalment of the Robert Peston programme tonight? Hope it isn't on at the same time as River Cottage. I think i might find a ton of ironing to do as an excuse to watch telly for a coupla hours - don't think it'll be hard to find. Shocking that i need an excuse to watch telly...
I wanna be in the room where it happens

I was given a pair of Caterpillar boots 16 years ago by someone who'd tried them on and couldn't be bothered to send them back to the catalogue  They're still going strong, and I love them to pieces. The soles look brand new, even though they're dug out every winter and worn almost daily. For summer I have Caterpillar sandals, and I have worn these on walking holidays as they're AMAZINGLY comfy!

oh well maybe my scales are playing up.

Lol, I often find my scales play up too, especially this time of year :D

I had a call from my former boss this morning, asking if I can go back in to help out from tomorrow up until Christmas. It won't be the same money as I was getting, as it's only to do a very straightforward bit of the work, but every little helps - and it will go towards the pain of paying for the new washing machine :T
  • Oooh all this talk of eggy bread has made me drool so this is what I am having for lunch. Talking of food, as I am nil by mouth from midnight tonight ...................well techinically 4 am if I want to set the alarm so that I can get up and eat but am thinking I won't bother ................and won't be likely to eat anything tomorrow, I'm wondering whether I could have tomorrows calorie intake today in the form of chocolate, crisps and anything else I fancy? :D

    I'll second that! :D

I've been lucky enough to see the northern lights twice - once when I was a teenager and many years later when a young neighbour knocked at my door and told me there was 'something wrong with the sky!' bless, he was a bit scared and thinking end of the world thoughts ;)

eta,the first time I saw the NL they were rainbow colours, the second time just green, what has anyone else seen? - just wondering if my teenage memories have gone adrift?

Talking of carpets. Years ago (probably40) I had an Italian friend and she invited me to her home. The whole very large Victorian house was fitted carpet made from sample tiles, even their very large basement kitchen. It was lovely like a patchwork quilt. The dad was a carpet fitter.

At the weekend we did a bit more in the house. We had to buy a larger than needed piece of carpet for the front room a couple of weeks ago because of the shape. We now have a long runner in the hallway and a nice sized piece in the kitchen with a couple of pieces spare for the "summer" by the front door.

I got a pair of curtains in a charity shop on Friday when I went the 35 miles to the dentist for a replacement front filling, they were £3.50. They had been taken up but only with iron on stuff so were easy to lengthen again. They were still too short! As it is not a wide window and right next to a door I can get away with one curtain so I carefully cut enough off the end of one and sewed it to the end of the other so it came past the sill. I hand stitched a length of similar coloured ribbon just above the resulting seam to hide it then hung it. I put the cut piece on some curly hooks and put it behind the long curtain and safety pinned the piece of fleece that was originally in the window between the two. I also put stick on velcro to stop the door side flapping and getting trapped. The only extra to the curtain I had to buy was the ribbon at 50p. Ddil thought I had made the curtain from scratch :)
