One word - Norway. They are not members of the EU. A country I have a great deal of respect and admiration for. For me, Norway is a successful country looking after their own interests and are brilliant at protecting their own resources.

They aren't an EU member state but still cooperate and maintain good levels of intergration and communication with the member states. It can be done surely?

Hmm I agree to a point, but isn't Norway horrendously expensive? I know Sweden always used to be but when i was investigating our trip there in the summer i was told that Sweden was OK but Norway was stupid prices. Sweden was, in fact, fairly similar to here (except for Alcohol, which was really dear if you had any in a bar or restaurant).

As far as I understand it their income is in relation with their cost of living. I'm not sure even that could be said about here at the moment.

I'm no expert, I just think, in an idiotic and ignorant way, that we shouldn't be giving any of our country's powers away to the EU member countries. It depends on why Cameron did what he did as to whether I agree with the decision or not. Did he do it because it was the best thing for OUR country or did he do it so his life as a politician/prime minister/leader/keep coalition together would be more solid/easier. That bit isn't clear.

I don't know how it effects us in our homes. If the EU and countries in it are mostly crippled by debt and the whole currency was about to collapse do we really need to be a part of that? Do we need to be part of it in order to get the growth that is supposed to be helping our own economy? I don't know.

If Norway can trade and stay afloat using their own rules on trade and currency then why can't we? I can't help but think 'we'll never win Eurovision again!! :rotfl:

Hi everyone, not sure if this is the right place to post but im not doing any shopping til the 22nd as we have a house full of food especially my cupboards! so today im using up some leeks, potatoes and carrots and was wondering if any of you have a soup recipe so I can use my new food processor my nanna bought me.

Have loads of cupboard stuff in to help bulk it out so any ideas will be great!

Im looking after my friends little boy for her today as she is working so going to be doing some baking too!

Leek and potato soup - my favourite... This is how I do it... 2 large potatoes, 2 large leeks, one onion (optional)... fry all of them gently then cover with chicken or veg stock, bubble gently until potatoes are soft, mash with a potato masher (I like chunky soup but you could blend it), Mix 2 tsp cornflour with 1/4 cup of milk and, if you want, add a handful of peas, bring back to boil for a couple of minutes and serve with a sprinkle of cheese on top, if you have some.

Yum yum! I am making some of this later but the leeks are in the car, I am still in PJs so am waiting for darkness to come so I can run out and grab them without being seen :rotfl:

Well my kids run round house naked most of time have tried putting clothes on them.

Forgot about calor gas we had one in downstairs bathroom look single glazed as was freezing it was a big beast but very warm.
Remember when we lived with my nan for a yeasr as a kid we used to fill up washing up bowl and wash in front of fire.
Hubbys just invested in some thermals me and my mam think they look very fetching!

    Hope everythings better soon.

Going to get on my highhorse here and have a mini rant.

It annoys me we give fuel allowance to wealth pensioners who dont need it.
Also fact that any low income person even people who work in fuel poverty.
Just seems so wrong surly food, heat and roof over heads not to much to ask for.

which brings me to my next point.

It affects people who rent more as

    landlords wont insulate
    allow meters
    out in double glazing
have adequate heating our boilers well old and fire is crap.

if I owed i would do as much as I could
would have solare panels on roof
    wood burning stove
    extra radiater in lounge.

Although seeing lanlords from hell last week on c4 made me realise I could be worse.
Ours a is a new build so not topo bad to heat.
Our patio doors crap they double glazed yet the curtains blow from the inside.

Other week my numpty hubby sat on curtains and pulled pole down
we had no curtains for few days
was very cold without them so definatly reccomend heavy lined curtains sometimes charity shop as curtains or ebay.

Europe wont affect us at all what they talking about is 5years down the line
Dont think markets will give them that long
if germany france get their triple a downgraded.
they cannot leverage their bailout fund 440billion into 1.2trillion and give to spain/portugal/.italy and greece.
    even then thats not enough
americas skint and they somehow think china will want to give.

cant see any effect we still eu state just not going to that specific meeting.
dave did only thing he could do clegg agreed friday now hes changed his mind!

Champagne wars makes me chuckle we had cava at our wedding.
supermarkets do a good job on convincing nation we need huge amount of expensive fancy food to have a good xmas so not true.,

My luxury is satsumas and nuts.

Fuddle - Alec Salmond and the SNP are always saying that Scotland should be closer with Norway, as they have the same population and similar terrain and climate as us. I've had Norwegian penpals over here and their standard of livign seems far higher than ours :(

    What's for dinner, Toughies?

We are having whoopsied (half price) lamb, roast potatoes (MrT value ones, roasted in lard, yummy but ), frozen pigs in blankets bought on a BOGOF, MrT value yorkshire puds and hm honey glazed carrots :)

Pudding for the kids will be frozen yoghurt tube thingies whoopsied and flung in the freezer last week!

Its going to be delicious, better than any restaurant grub, and its only having typed it out that I realise how frugal it really is!!!

For our dinner we're having eggy bread. Not really a slap up meal but nice all the same. Can't even call it pauper's food with the price of bread and eggs.

For afters tinned peach slices and then a cuppa with the gingerbread house my littlies made this afternoon. Must get some veg in us tomorrow, and dairy in our porridge.

Whoopsied sausages, egg, chips and beans here and I'm not cooking it! Yay! We have official "be nice to mummy day" on Sunday as when OH was moaning that doing OT on Sunday am meant that he only got one day off, I pointed out none to gently that no one gave me any time off, so now he does most stuff on Sunday and I get to read the papers and cuddle the kids! Only proviso is that it has to be easy to cook tea as he's not so hot on cooking.
