or maybe the blast on the horn was just to let her know that he was going to skip across and take the exit0

If you listen closely to the blasts of certain horns it says "I'M A !!!!!!! I'M A !!!!!!!" Ive seen cars translate this into morse code with a flash of their lights too. The morse code is most effective on a bright summers day...0 -
OP, can you give us a google maps link of the island in question?0

Around Birmingham I think they're incapable OR the road markings mean something entirely different in their native language OR more than likely they're one of those many years ago who got friends/family to do the driving test for them.....
Where you're going wrong is that there are no road markings in birmingham, just beautiful art we can choose to admire or ignore. 90% of us choose to ignore them.
the safest way round a roundabout in birmingham is to either a) approach in the left hand lane, stick to the outside of the roundabout all the way round to your exit or b) approach in middle lane (if 3 approach lanes) cut accross the middle of the roundabout and exit safely knowing that no-one turning right from the right hand lane, as "you're supposed to do," can possibly change their mind to go the same way as you...0 -
Road markings are fine in light traffic but in traffic jams they're obscured - fine if you're a local but not so good for visitors. Had that problem at the Hanger Lane [North Circular] mega-roundabout recently.Strider590 wrote: »Obey the signs and road markings, you can't go wrong.0 -
Hi Folks
Friend of mine was entering a roundabout this afternoon. There are four exits on the roundabout and the approach lanes are clearly marked. Traffic exiting at the first or second exit take the left hand lane. Traffic taking the third or fourth exit take the outside lane.
She wanted the second exit so waited in the left hand lane for the traffic to clear and then entered the roundabout. The guy in the outside lane entered the roundabout at the same time as her and then started to blast at her on the horn. He then cut in front of her and took the second exit
The experience has unnerved her and I have been trying to figure out what could be the reason for his outburst. My first thought was that he had not read the road markings correctly and believed that he was in the correct lane and my friend was in the wrong lane. But there are two problems with this. First of all she had not even got to the first exit before he started his tantrum; for all he knew she was going to turn off there. Secondly he took the exit for the local supermarket and was seen parking his car there so may very well have been a local man with good knowledge of the local area.
Any thoughts welcome.
My thoughts are that your friend was taking much too long to assess that it was safe to proceed with her manouvre and probably created a queue behind her at the roundabout, section 169 of the HC suggests not to unecessarily create queues behind you, your friends has passed her test, it is now time to learn to drive (not meant in a facious way, I have seen many take a long time to proceed with their journey and still driving as if they are on a driving lesson) .0 -

Really! You don't appear to have based that assumption on any evidence.0 -
