  • i disagree with livinginhope, i have 4 children and buy them clarks all the time, bit never at full price, i go to cheshire oaks and recently bought ds2 and ds3 scholl shoes for £12 and £7,i usually find that they will last untill they fit no longer sometimes its only three months although i have had several pairs that have lasted the full school year, ds2 is extremely heavy on them but as other posts have said the shoe magic makes them look tidy and it lasts for ages i've had some for 6 years! bye for now sharron

    Hi specsappeal,

I have a thing about childrens shoes and bought all of mine Startrite or Clark's until they became old enough to decide for themselves what they wanted to wear. They were expensive but I think they were value for money because they were well fitted to include growing room and were always outgrown before they fell to bits.

I think you should get more replies on the Families board so I've moved your thread over there.

    OMG!!!

My daughter 7 (8 in August) and very tall for her age is in a 13, though may need a 1 soon.

    An Adult 4 !!

My daughter is nearly 10 and is in an adult size 9 shoe (I started a thread on her shoe size a while ago as it is near impossible to find a decent shoe to fit her) and has been in adult clothes for some time - she is 5ft 2, I'm 5ft 3!

I used to buy £10 pairs of school shoes for my son but had to replace them at least every term as they used to fall apart.

I changed to Clarks shoes and can now get a years wear out of them unless my sons feet grow excessively. I regularly take him back to the shop to get his shoes checked and they don't try and sell me a new pair of shoes if he doesn't need them.

I really do believe that cheap shoes are false economy.

I've got 2 boys and can usually get a year of school wear out of Clarks shoes and Shumagic. The shoes usually still have wear left, and they get thrown away as the no longer fit, rather than because they are dropping to bits. As they are typical boys and the shoes get hammered by playing football etc in them, so I'd rather pay more for shoes that last.
Here I go again on my own....

Oooh, this is a big bug-bear with me. I agree with jet - cheap shoes are a false economy. Last September, being even more strapped for cash than usual I bought the children school shoes from Shoezone. Big mistake. The outer layer of my daughter's shoes started to peel off within a week and looked really awful - like a very bad case of sunburned skin, and within a few weeks the whole top was coming apart from the sole. My son's shoes wore huge holes right through the sole so that his feet were getting wet. I will always go to Clarks in the future as their shoes the previous year lasted the whole school year (their feet didn't grow very much obviously). You would think that if you are paying half the price of Clarks you would get half the wear out of them, but that's not the case. Our local Shoezone is apparently closing down now, but I'm not surprised as they only sell rubbish and their sizes are skimpy and the shoes uncomfortable. They won't be missed by me!

I went and bought my son a pair of Clarks trainers yesterday £15 in the sale (In Brantanos) He has a wide fitting, so we buy whatever they have that will fit!

definately go for quality, in september I bought DD her back to school shoes at start rite for £35, 5 months later they are still going strong but just need a little polish now and again on the scuff marks, bought some clarkes school shoes for £12 in the sale recently and have put them away for her to grow into as they are the next size up :)
