What a lovely uplifting post Rosa
Good to read that your social life is picking up. Your day out sounded lovely. It's a good way of gauging who your real friends are - the ones who'll welcome you back as if you've never been away.
It's not how far you fall - it's how high you bounce back.... :jHappiness is not a destination - it's a journey0 -

You're soooo right Poles. There are a couple of people I suspect I will drift away from as am realising we have different interests now, but far more I am delighted to see again and who are just as lovely as I remembered :TDebt free May 2016... DFW#2 in progress

Hm perhaps I should stick around here and try to keep myself on track...
MSE today- Returned footless tights that weren't right (completely stupid design, print pattern on stretch so distorted badly around eg. knees)
- Took old Monsoon item into shop and got £10 taken off fab sweater dress I bought last week and hadn't worn yet. (It needs knee boots, and last year's have completely died, the uppers have parted from both soles and it doesn't look fixable. That's the last time I buy from Ru55e11 and Br0mle3y, they were far more expensive than elsewhere and the quality was carp.)
- Picked up oil filled radiator from a friend who kindly stored it for me. Very glad I didn't sell it as it's now replacing a dead heater in the flat and will be much more efficient too. I hung onto it as I paid out for one with boost and timer etc and didn't want to lose out on its value second hand, so really pleased it's now getting used.
- Went to independent local cafe for scone and juice totalling about £3 instead of favourite C05ta which would have been about £7.
- Agreed to go out for dinner with friends on Tuesday - it's a birthday do, so might put some money from the gifts account towards this. My favourite local Italian :j
- Agreed to go out for lunch and a walk with friends tomorrow (won't be too cheap as it's a scenic posh town). But really looking forward to it so
Did not escape Hotel Choc unscathed while buying friends birthday pressie... (otoh, removes excuse for extra Sainsbugs trip).
Must remember to keep any Monsoon or M&S items in the Ebay pile to use for trade-in.

couldn't agree more Poles, and Rosa. This year my xmas card list is getting drastically chopped thanks to the rise in stamp prices. My best friend was back over from Oz in the summer and despite the fact I hadn't seen her for nearly 2yrs, it was just like putting on a pair of comfy slippers (whoops, not sure I should be comparing my best mate to a pair of slippers), but you know what I mean, it was a lovely day, just like old times. Made me realise there's 'friends' who I send cards to that I don't see from one year to the next. Not really anyone's fault, just grown apart.

I have an old magazine article somewhere that calls them 'good for nothing friends'... being the friends you can do nothing with, and it's still good
My Christmas list got drastically weeded the last couple of years. Partly because I was so late sending them due to being manic, partly because I got fed up at spending money on people I hadn't seen in 10 years and who probably hadn't given me a thought since, and partly because although I used to love Christmas, it's got more difficult recently (for various reasons, another post sometime) so I now try to make it a thoughtful time rather than allow 'obligations' to come into it. One thing that did work quite well has been sending 'real' cards to the people I know will appreciate them (and who I will send a note in the card knowing what they've been up to and that they really are welcome to visit) and email cards to the others. Much more ecofriendly, much cheaper, and I get the Jacqui Lawson ones which most people love - very pretty and only about a fiver for a full year's subscription. I've also sent them to work contacts who have been particularly helpful, and have had really nice emails back.
Oh and I gave up doing Christmas cards at work years ago, I can't stand watching middle aged women throw playground tantrums about who didn't send to whom  so now I just bring in some kind of treat for everyone. Fortunately my workplace is quite sensible about that kind of thing and a lot of people do similar or email saying they've made a charity donation instead of doing cards. I might do that this year, or get people to vote on which 'good gift' or something.
Lovely afternoon out today and friends were too hungover to go out in time for lunch :rotfl: so it was also v cheap - just a drink and scone.

Yep, my work ones are being drastically reduced this year - usually only give about 6-7 but half of them are still sat on people's desks from last year (not sure whether to be flattered or annoyed they didn't even bother taking them home). So this year, there's two people who are getting them. At this rate I'll have enough xmas cards (bought in the sale) to last me two years!
I'm not sure how I feel about eCards, I tend to think that people saying 'oh it's eco friendly etc' is more to cover up 'sorry, don't see you often enough, and couldn't be ars*d to bother to actually sit down and put pen to paper so I'm sending you this generic one along with the 500 other people in my contacts list'. It's kind of up there with people I went to school with, whom I haven't seen let alone spoken to since I was 15 asking to be a FB friend...why? would I otherwise be sharing my holiday photos with you? do you really care what I'm doing when we never even spoke when we saw each other 5 days a week for 5 years?Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

If they were that "not-bothered" they'd be in the bin by now - so they're at least pretty...So this year, there's two people who are getting them. At this rate I'll have enough xmas cards (bought in the sale) to last me two years!
I've got enough to last about 10 years. Keep losing the old ones when I need them, and buying new. Same with wrapping paper...It's kind of up there with people I went to school with, whom I haven't seen let alone spoken to since I was 15 asking to be a FB friend...why? would I otherwise be sharing my holiday photos with you? do you really care what I'm doing when we never even spoke when we saw each other 5 days a week for 5 years?
You only went to school for 5 years?! How did you manage that? I went for about 500, 25 hours a day, 8 days a week.
Every minute a joy.

Ha bloomin ha! I was referring to those I may have occasionally shared a classroom with from ages 11-16 who now want to 'befriend' me...sorry, had loads of time to do that before.
Try and keep your cards in one place, then you won't lose themI think I have 2yrs worth of wrapping paper too - had to put it in the loft with the tree, everytime I opened the wardrobe where it was previously I was endanger of being concussed from rolls of paper falling out

:rotfl: point taken... though I think I am pretty green in other ways, and friends know that so hopefully they aren't too offended. Most of the school people etc already fell off the list. Or haven't bothered telling me when they move so I only have an email address anyway.
I haven't had many school FB requests - there are a couple I've accepted as one is still in touch with a mutual friend and another I would really like to see despite not having caught up in person since the day of our A-Level results! The one from someone who I never liked anyhow and that didn't even say 'hello', just 'wow you look different' was ignored.
Oh and I don't have 500 people in my contacts list anyway... I only have 60 odd even on FB... am beginning to think FB network is a very easy way of assessing introversion/ extroversion :rotfl:

Now there's a proposition you can't refuse...sorry, had loads of time to do that before.
Ooer missus.Try and keep your cards in one place, then you won't lose them
I do. And then I forget that one place. I'm thinking of carpet bombing this year - I'm bound to turn up at least a couple.I think I have 2yrs worth of wrapping paper too - had to put it in the loft with the tree,
I always used to use step-ladders to put stuff in the loft. Less bendy.everytime I opened the wardrobe where it was previously I was endanger of being concussed from rolls of paper falling out
