    uninstall this

    O23 - Service: PC Tools Auxiliary Service (sdAuxService) - PC Tools - C:\Program Files\Spyware Doctor\pctsAuxs.exe

    c:\Program Files\Spyware Doctor\pctsAuxs.exe

Click the java icon in control panel, advanced, misc - untick java quick starter, and untick place icon in system tray. Disable error reporting - control panel, system, advanced, error reporting, select disable error reporting and leave notify me when a critical error occurs ticked.

    uninstall spybot

stop these running at startup using msconfig - if you need to run them, create an icon and use as required

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Adobe Reader Speed Launcher] "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Reader\Reader_sl.exe"

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [EvtMgr6] C:\Program Files\Logitech\SetPointP\SetPoint.exe /launchGaming
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [RoboForm] "C:\Program Files\Siber Systems\AI RoboForm\RoboTaskBarIcon.exe"
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ctfmon.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MSMSGS] "C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe" /background

if you dont use bluetooth often, you could set the bluetooth service to manual along with the crypkey (the latter may stop a piece of software running until re-enabled)

then reboot and note the commit charge before launching any programs, and post it. (it should be under 200,000)

have you installed/changed your dns servers to tidydns?

    Many thanks closed.

I've followed your instructions, but have left Roboform at start-up as I use it constantly.

Also, ctfmon doesn't appear to be there to stop at start-up?

Sorry, no idea what your last comment means about changing my dns servers.

My commit charge after rebooting was 183056.

If you can afford £18, you might wish to opt for a pair of these or similar.

    You can fit them yourself.

I would take out the old and slot in the new.

Your PC will be more responsive.

Though after the current clean-up, the RAM is not strictly necessary.

I would be interested, but wouldn't have a clue where to start re. fitting the RAM

If you can use a screwdriver, you can install RAM. Plenty of help on here if required.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

How to change your DNS Server

    Have not heard about TidyDNS.

Try these instead or switch to Automatic.

Thanks, but cannot follow instructions on YouTube ... far too small, even with my glasses on! How do I switch to Auto and what difference will this make do you think?

Re. adding RAM, think I'll leave it for now ... my p.c. seems to be running much better now.
