Reasonable travel time?

In my current job I used to commute about 2 hours by public transport- would leave the house just after 7am and be lucky to make it into the office by 5 to 9- ridiculous when you see that I live about 10 miles away from work in a town rather than out in the country.
Nowadays thankfully, I drive and it takes with traffic about 30 minutes. That's reasonable for me- any more and I couldn't afford the petrol (my car is old and isn't petrol efficient)I am a Mortgage Adviser

Only if it is safe to do so - a walk along an unlit road at night is not to be recommended as the risks may outweigh any benefitsHow long would it take you to walk instead of hanging round the bus station?

How long would it take you to walk instead of hanging round the bus station? If it's a reasonable distance the walking would be preferable to me.
I would much prefer to walk even just for health benefits, however it is an absolute nightmare steep hill, I mean nightmare, extreme deep. It takes the same amount of time as waiting, I'd still prefer to walk because of the fact I hate waiting around, however in this !!!!!! weather, walking is hardly ideal.Poverty 2012 - F**K My low wage!0 -

Get a bike, lights and a hi-vis jacket. (depending on the route - there may be a steep hill. Mind you, steep hill on my route means that it takes me 35 mins to get to work but only 20 to get home.)0 -

Haven't drove a bicycle for years. Not exactly all weather, and not exactly very hygenic on the way into work.Poverty 2012 - F**K My low wage!0 -
Im about to start a job that's gonna be close to 2 hours travel each way.
My previous jobs have been 15 minutes / 35 minutes and 5 minutes each way.
Luckily I can stay with my parents a night or 2 each week to break it down a bit.Hope over Fear. #VoteYes0 -
I commute an hour each way by train/walking. For a year, about a decade ago, I commuted from Portsmouth Harbour to the City (about 2.5 hours each way) and that was pure hell! Mind you, there were people on the Portsmouth train who commuted daily from the Isle of Wight into London! :eek:DMP Mutual Support Thread member 244

I used to have a job which was ok to get to in the day (an hour by public transport) but if I finished at 10pm the buses didn't connect so it took 2 hours to get home with a long wait in an empty bus station.
That was my incentive to learn to drive.
From choice nowadays I'd say 3/4 hour was my limit, I wouldn't want to be travelling any longer than that. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
It's really down to your circumstances. I've always done about an hour to an hour and a half each way until recently when my work moved close to home so I can walk it in 30 minutes, which is just as well because getting a car out of where I work is a nightmare at rush hour - it can take an hour just to get out onto the main road if you don't time it right.0

I have done a two hour each way commute in the past - that was driving to the station, then the train, then the underground, then a 10 minute walk.
Nowadays, I either drive 10-15 minutes, or, as today, I walked and it took me 45 minutes.
I look back on that 2 hour commute now, and wonder how on earth I did it. I would never contemplate commuting four hours a day now.
Reasonable, to me, would be a 30 minute drive, or an hour by public transport. That's not to say I think no one should commute further than that, as some people can cope with long commutes better than others, and when times are hard, you do what you have to do - but the question was "What do you consider reasonable travel time to work and back".0
