  • There's one that seems to have crept in without me noticing: "What do you think to that?" I've never thought to anything in my life and I'm not going to start now. Where has it come from and please can it go back?

My, it's a long time since phones tinkled, isn't it? I rather wish they still would given all of the horrible tunes and tones I hear a lot of nowadays.

I think a lot of it is dialect rather than mis-pronouncing the words...

I've lived in the South East, West Midlands, South Wales and now in the North West!!

Have heard allsorts, along the way...

Love the poster who picked out Buzz as Bus as from Wigan :)

I guess we all live and learn...

I've lived in Wigan for almost 4 years now (originally from Manchester) and have a giggle at the pronunciation of words.

My favourite its pork. Pronounced as 'park' in't Wigan :D

Had a giggle at a car sticker in one of the neighbours' cars, which read: 'There are no pies left in this car overnight.'

Love Wigan though. Everyone is so friendly and there is such a great sense of community spirit.
Really glad that we're raising the kids here and not Manchester :)
  • Another thing, when did Mum/Mam become 'Mom'???

And there is no 'R' in can't! Lots of people spell it as 'carn't' nowadays.

Am I getting old or are people getting stranger?

It's always been Mom to me for the last 25 years, I don't know anyone who says Mum or Mam.

I've noticed that learn and teach seem to be used wrongly more often, I'll learn him how to read. Another one is using "was" wrongly, was you out last night? It's very odd.

The only people Ive known to say Mom are Americans, because obviously thats what they say. And 1 person I know from Birmingham! Ive never understood why she uses the American word. Where are you from - its not Birmingham too is it?:rotfl:

Everyone I know says Mum. The only people I know who say Mam are Northerners.

I saw on a forum the other day "I could care less what you said" huh? don't you mean I couldn't care less? I have seen that one on so many US based forums, again, strikes me as lazy.

An American once told me that when they say "I could care less" where we would say "I couldn't care less", there is an implied/understood "As if" before the "I", so that what they are saying is "As if I could care less", which would make more sense.

I wouldn't say it to you though as i'd not expect you to know what it meant. :) I'm from the north-east of Scotland.

"i teen is fae the shops but its broke so im taakin it back min."

glad im not the only one on here from up here. trying to think of some more but i think you have covered pretty much all of ours lol.

leaning someone something really annoys me. you teach someone something and they learn it. you cant learn someone!!
