There's no real catch all anti malware package. The rule I go by is ONE firewall, ONE anti-virus app installed and then as many good anti-spyware/adware packages as possible.

    *cough*

No there is no catch all AS softwares but installing more than one CAN cause you problems. The more AV and AS and Firewallas you install the more likely you are to have conflicts and effects can range from corruption of OS to just no internet access until you remove one of the conflicting softwares...

    just a thought ;)

Semantic? "Inbound attacks" has no redundant word in the phrase and is as concise as it can be. There was no inference that protection had to be from "attacks" only. It was you that implied that there could only be another form of "attack" to be protected from. Espresso was quite right that you need protection from more than just inbound attacks. Just saying attacks could be misleading in itself.

    Now that is enough semantics!

That is why I emphasised ONE anti virus and ONE firewall (you're kind of partly arguing something I didn't even say). I know multiples of those are a definite no no. I have never experienced or heard of conflicts from having multiple antispyware apps though and as far as I'm aware I don't think they'd stop internet access?!?

They can... some companies have huge issues with anti spyware software conflicting with their software - issues include both bluescreen and corruption of OS and 99% cpu usage and clamping down of internet access...

I should probably make it clear that you shouldn't over do it on the antispyware and tine is right that you could end up with unpredictable conficts. The four AS apps I use that I mentioned previously are well known and so far haven't given me any problems. You certainly wouldn't need more than that.
