AVG 7 is, according to those on here that use it, very good.

I use the AOL free offering from Kaspersky.

I would recommend also that you download a decent firewall. ZoneAlarm is free for personal use and highly customisable.

You should also read the Security Sticky on this forum.

If you use broadband you need a firewall. You can use the one included within windows XP or you can download zone alarm free software. This will prevent hackers from accessing your computer and using it to spam etc.
You also need to run some anti spyware software regularly. Adaware is free and good.

Is it necessary to have both Spybot and Adaware...? I guess it cant hurt, don't they do the same thing..?

There's no real catch all anti malware package. The rule I go by is ONE firewall, ONE anti-virus app installed and then as many good anti-spyware/adware packages as possible.

I currently have installed (besides AVG AV and Zonealarm) AVG anti spyware, spybot s&d, ad-aware, windows defender, also useful to have ccleaner installed as well.

The reason for having more than one anti spyware/malware prog is that no one program will get everything. Adaware may pick up things that spybot doesn't and vice versa.
Just remember to keep them updated and run them on a regular basis.
