Am contemplating a trip to Ikea now just to get meatballs, chips and gravy, YUMM!

Same here - not forgetting a nice big dollop of that lingonberry (I always want to put a "k" in front of that!) preserve! New potatoes, though - I'm trying to cut down.

And I do need a bag of meatballs, two packets of gravy and a jar of lingonberry preserve to further justify the trip, even though my local Ikea is just down the road from where I now work!

    Hi all

Would love to rack your brains on how I could source the receipes for the meatballs and gravy they serve you at Ikea stores.

My hubbie and kids absolutely love them and I don't fancy a trip to our local ikea (over an hour away) each time.

Can anyone help? Guesses on the receipe would be appreciated - I don't know where to begin.

    Thanks

I buy the sauce mix packets from Ikea as I have failed to make anything like the Graddas sauce, you do need to add single cream aswell as water. Then you could either try and replicate the recipe for the meatballs, I think there was a post on here for similar pork and beef ones, I'll try to find it in a mo.

You can buy the meatballs in Ikea but I find the cheapest ones are the Swedish Kitchen I think it is called, will get them on BOGOF or other offers in Somerfield, Tesco and Somerfield I have found them, they do freeze well, cheaper without offers are ones in Costco..

    Hi JuliaV,

There's an older thread that might help so I've merged your thread with it to keep all the suggestions together.

It might be worth a look at these threads too:

Do we still have Swedish members who can help with a recipe

    meatballs (and sauces)

** Stamps Feet ** and edits post, PW beat me to it, I haven't tried Tine's recipe yet because last time we went to Ikea I bought 20 packets of the mix :o still working my way through them

Pleased this thread is back as I have never seen a cookbook, must have missed that post, ooooo goody an excuse to go to Ikea....

Oh and my kids think I am disgusting because I like the jelly on the meatballs, DS2 loves it on toast however so always goes quickly in our house.

Ikea has only opened here in the last month and I haven't managed to go there yet....Hopefully now the crowds will have died down so I think I'm going to have to go and try these 'famous' meatballs. :D

  • tesco have some really nice ready made meatballs, about £1.70 for 20-ish, seems cheaper than making them to me, you can also microwave them, thats what we did and they wear yummy served with thin chips, bisto and that jelly sauce you get with them in ikea. im going to be putting them on my list for tomorrow now after talking about them.

I was just having a nosey on Tesco website, looks like they don't do the 'Scan' brand ones http://www.scanfoods.co.uk/swedish-food-meatballs/products.php just so you know what they look like. I think they are the same price for those as the Tesco ones usually in Sainsbury's etc, they're most likely made by the same people. Costco it's double that amount in a catering pack, I usually freeze some and I paid £2.89 last time I bought them.

Being Swedish I might be able to help you with your questions.

If you want it bought you can get the meatballs from Asda, in ours it is kept in the coolers at the 'already made' burgers section (rustlers, feasters) or next to the diced turkey breasts. It's called Scan Swedish Kitchen pork and beef meatballs
The gravy (gräddsås) you can buy the sachets in IKEA or....

....To make your own (taken from my Swedish cookbok Vår Kokbok)

    4-5portions ca 40min
    Meatballs

    200g pork mince
    200g beef mince
50ml unsweetened rusk flour or 60g bread crumbs
1 1/2 ml milk or water
    1 egg
    1 1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black or white pepper
    1/2 onion finely chopped

Moisten the rusk flour/bred crumbs in with the milk, leave it for 10-15min to swell. Mix all the ingredients together until there is consistency and then flavour generously with salt, pepper.
shape the mixture into medium size, round balls and fry them slowly in plenty of butter. (if the mixture get stuck on your hands whilst you are rolling them it helps if you put some cold water on them so your hands are wet whilst rolling)

    Gräddsås (cream sauce)

Use the fat from the saucepan from frying the meatballs, add an oxo cube, add 2tbsp flour mix together to a paste, pour in 100ml warm water or milk, bring to boil add 1tsp soya and 2-3 msk single cream

Any problems feel free to PM me :)
