  • Hi Bitsey can I join you please? Gave up my job in July and feel rested for being at home. Don't like asking OH for money so need to earn something.......would like a job that I want to do. Currently getting contributions based JSA just because I can ;) I must say attending the Jobcentre has a horrid fascination all of it's own. :(

I would love to have an old fashioned sweetshop-there is a lovely one in Wells-but not found a suitable location yet in my head. I am thinking about getting some business advice. Any suggestions anyone has gratefully received.

    Have a great evening all.

Going back to the "what's your luxury" question (I'm only just catching up lol) I reckon it's any clothing that doesn't come from a charity shop!:rotfl: Actually, I loathe and detest clothes shopping, and would sooner saw off my leg with a rusty bread knife than have to go and do it!

Shove up a bit everyone, make room for a little one,(poetic licence).

I used to make wine years ago. My cow parsley was a legend. My French ma-in-law took a couple of bottles home with her and served it as an aperitif at a posh dinner party she was giving for some friends from the French Embassy, ( Oh excuse me, I seem to have dropped a name.) They begged her to say where she had bought it! Tea wine was good, made from the dregs of the teapot. It was even better when we discovered two bottles years later when we moved house - tasted like a very expensive sherry with a kick like a mule. Boots used to have a lovely wine-making section and the best recipe book was the Women's Institute one. This was back in the 70's, don't know who does it now.

Now I am old and ekeing out a miserly pension I've discovered that I would rather have a little of something good than a whole lot of something cheap and tasteless.
And with that little plastic pearl of wisdom, I'll let you get on.

Monnagran you just reminded me of some potato wine I made, years ago - from the tatty spuds at the tail end of a sack. It was that potent, you had to sit on the floor before drinking it! Pretty close to Poteen, I reckon!:rotfl:

LameWolf: Never tried potato peelings, peapod was quite good. My kids said that the only thing not turned into wine in our house was the contents of the vacuum bag. We had many a merry party round the kitchen table of a Friday night. You're right Wolfie, some of this stuff was lethal, but what jolly fun!

Loving the wine making stories, reminds me of that episode of the good life where they all get pished on HM wine :rotfl:

Well have come to the conclusion that chickens are not for us. Have enough to do around here as it is without having to deal with chickens aswell :o so sorry NPM will have to live vicariously through your chicken adventures instead :D

So I didn't actually make any Christmas cards but before you tut tut at me I did instead do my filing and Declutter a bankers box of junk that's been hanging around our bedroom for far too long. I did also come up with what designs I want to have a go at making for my Christmas cards so that is sometimes half the battle :D

Feeling tired and strangely achey today, think DS has finally gone off to sleep so an early night may be in order.

ETA nope he's still awake

  • Room for another one?
Not a lot of spare money round here, but we do what we can to live well & help the family. DD2 no longer needs regular help as her husbands wages have finally been sorted out, but hubby & I have had a chat & decided that we will carry on buying her a bag of fruit once a fortnight & 2 pints of milk a week, it will cost us under £15 a month & we can manage that at the moment. We have also decided to help BIL, he is not well enough to work or attend college but he desperately needs to get out of the house on a regular basis. We are going to make a list of jobs that need doing around the house & get him over once a month, we will pay his train fare, provide breakfast & lunch & send him home with 4 cans of beer, his fare & the beer will come to under £15 but hopefully make a big difference too him.
