If you are only looking at 2 to 3 birds the coops don`t take up too much room, ours is a coop with a run and can take up to 5 or 6 large fowl but we only put the 3 ladies in so they have more room. 3 girls will give you approx 20 eggs a week:D
We get a 20kg sack of layers for about £9,this lasts about 3 or 4 months.
A pack of horse bedding is £8 and lasts about 3 months
chicken grit isnt much about £4 for big bag
The diatom for redmite isn`t that bad, about £10 I think for 2kg
We also have stuff like poultry spice, poultry drink, coop cleaner, and various meds just incase we need them at short notice.
we also got a sack of layers with Flubenvet in which we use 1 week a month to protect against worms inc gapeworm.....and some ACV for their water first week of the month

Anyone mind a Wolf on the bench?:D

Not totally brassic as a household, as Mr LW has a good job at the mo, but once the Gov't get around to axing my IB and eventually my DLA, I shall only have my tiny Civil Service pension to pay my share of the bills.

I've discussed with Mr LW, and we agree that I'm not strong enough mentally or physically to cope with an ESA assessment, so we shall be going without that.:(

I used to make lots of HM wine, but sadly there's just not enough room in the bungalow for a load of demijohns - we do have sloe vodka on the go, though. :D

And hoping to pick up some nice Real Ale for Yule from a local microbrewery, which is just a mile and a quarter from where we live, so Mr LW can walk and I can go on the mobility buggy - and with any luck, we'll get to sample the goods.;)

I'd love to keep chooks, but there are foxes in the area (I was woken by one baying its little head off in the front garden, one time) and also, I'm not sure I'm well enough to look after them properly. Plus Mr LW isn't at all keen.

Good point - some of the canine guests I have from time to time probably wouldn't be very good around hens - Terrier Ted comes to mind, straight away!

Welcome Flippin, hope you'll join in :)

Welcome to LW and Sistercas :D

So got me thinking today what exactly do you all class as the luxury in life? It's something different for us all.

I suppose for me it would be stuff like booze (no honestly I dont have a problem :rotfl:), night outs with Hubs, night outs with the girls, coffee and chat with friends, new clothes and shoes, make up and pamper treatments (when I actually get off my !!!! and make the effort of course), crafting items, plants for the garden, more expensive cooking ingredients and lastly the time to sit and just be. The latter is quite important since I spend a great deal of time either rushing about or feeling like I ought to be :rotfl:

  • The luxuries for me, which I havent had much of, for a while, would be makeup, moisturiser, perfume, meals out and 'nice things'. We've been being careful for so long, I have forgotten how to be financially generous to myself. So, I am looking for ways to treat myself on a budget, without too much effort atn :o

(for those of you who don't know me, I am under threat of redundancy at work just now, but am thinking I will take voluntary redundancy if I can, which is why I need a seat on the brassic bench, we will be ok for day to day living, but thats it)

  • I use Boots Cucumber cheapie moisturiser, it's the only one that doesnt feel like it makes my make up slide off my face. bargain for approx £1.49 :T and lasts for ages.
I considery my daily make up, foundation and finishing powder to be a necessity  to go without that would be too cruel to inflict on mankind :rotfl: mind you it's mineral powder so a little goes a long way and whereas my old liquid foundation would last 2 months tops this stuff lasts nearly 6 months :T
