  • I don't have any work at the moment - only being doing the work for 1 month - hope it continues as its very straight forward stuff. No replies from supervisor for ages (he is usually quite good at replying) and he hasn't been on Skype. Not sure how a payment fortnight can just disappear of the system - odd!

Hopefully will be sorted out for us asap.

Sadly I think a lot of the metrics fall down to luck week from week...
Which is one of the reasons I really dislike ABH's metrics. You know that something is wrong when everything is 'down to luck' - And has anyone actually seen a PM comment that doesn't agree with the official rating? Because I haven't.

Things are made ten times worse by the toolbar. Frequent crashes & browser freezing being among the main contenders - but to top things off, it doesn't record your time properly, either! Ever had an hour shaven off, even though you are positive you did the time? I hate that.

Are there any current Appen judges here (preferably Freshness market) that have frequent good quality reports? I'd be interested in trading notes (strictly between *current* proven judges only in the interest of protecting the NDA). I really dislike that there is no way to communicate with other judges via the Appen site. In an office you learn the tricks of the trade from your co-workers, far more than you learn from your interview or brief. As it stands at Appen we're completely in the dark, and at the mercy of the auditors and project managers. Let's try to help each other out on this.

Is anyone else having persistent freezing?

Yet again today the tool keeps freezing in the sets of 30 - has happened every time but one today.

I've reinstalled the toolbar, which I thought had helped, but apparently not.

Ready to throw in the towel - worked 2 hours, but only about 50 minutes hasn't been lost to a crash.

Haven't started work today yet, 271906. And only experienced one freeze yesterday, so seems I got off lightly there...

Did get a bit of a weird email from Appen this morning though! Was basically inviting me to apply to take the exam for the job I'm already doing (I think), and said that they were contacting me as they'd seen my profile on one of those job sites - despite the fact that I'm not actually on any of them.. Just seemed strange considering it seemed like a genuine message as opposed to spam. Why lie like that?!

I've had 3 freezes today, all towards the end of long sets. I wish they'd make the maximum 10 or so. It's incredibly disheartening.
  • Arrgh! This is my first experience of this. My report says I have only done 10 minutes work when I've actually been working for over an hour. Do the tasks I successfully submitted before the crash count or have I lost those too?

Had 2 hours of no crashes and 15 minutes into a set of 30 just now and guess what.......another freeze.

Really becoming very tired of it now. I'm an hour and a half behind through no fault of my own. I'm not prepared to work 5 and a half hours and be paid for 4.

If they can't get the 30 sets to work properly, they should get rid of them.

Hi Cassiopeia01 - Sometimes 'My Report' takes about an hour to update, so there is hope that further time might track.

Sadly, if it crashes, you lose all of the judgments and all of the time you have worked. It's completely unacceptable and as NineAngels says, very disheartening.

MallRat - That seems strange indeed. They don't make themselves seem very trustworthy behaving like that.

I imagine they're pretty desperate to recruit though - consultant turnover is relatively high, and for perspective contractors getting even close to production is very hard with all the exams and now 20 hours of work!

I know I moan a lot about it - I am pleased to have the job, and I know I'm really lucky to be able to work at home and enjoy the benefits of that, however, the technical issues, constant assessments (which seem, in large, to be a matter of luck) and lack of communication does somewhat downgrade what would otherwise be a very good job all things considered.

I'm not sure if the previous poster who mentioned having to do a 20 hour timed task was going to do a different role. I had to do the initial questionbank and then the project specific one, both of which you could have a second attempt, but there was no timed 20 hour test...

Ahh okay, I see. I always thought 20 hours worth of testing seemed completely ridiculous as an idea - studying for the question banks probably takes that long.
  • It took me quite a bit longer than that
