Apple cakes that can then be frozen (I found a recipe the other day that wanted 4 apples per cake! Haven't made it yet.
It goes well with red cabbage. I use 2 apples per head of cabbage and this can also be frozen well.Pink Sproglettes born 2008 and 2010

Hi Everyone
I know this is basic but I'm sure you'll be able to help.
I've just been given a bag full of Eating apples. This coincides with me coming back frm Holiday with new resolve to shed a few pounds. Now what to do with the apples? too many to eat on their own. Can anyone suggests recipes etc that use them up (can I freeze them as they are?) would really like a healthy option - (actually would really like a lovely deep filled apple crumble but this conflicts with my new resolve of losing weight.)
Any suggestions would be very gratefully received - please note I'm not a natural cook so will need VERY BASIC instructions!:rotfl:

Peel them, slice them, cook them gently for a few minutes to soften with a little sugar and a squirt of lemon juice to keep the colour, then open freeze them on a flat sheet with some tin foil on it .When frozen put into a plastic bag (free from a supermarket) until needed in a crumble or pie.0

As above, but use on top of cereal or plain yogurt. If they are sweet eating apples you may get away with no or little sugar, or you could use artificial stuff like Splenda to keep the calorie count down.0

There was a thread about this yesterday - have a look for it on page 2.
Edit: Here it is!

Also, instead of sweetening the apple in the crumble with sugar, use naturally sweet spieces - like cinnamon and vanilla.0 -
how about some apple chutney? I have a recipe if you need one, alternatively I am sure there are loads on here.0

Another thought...you could decore them, cut them up fairly thinly and then dry them? Try googling for dehydrated apples or similar...fairly healthy...0

I have a couple of apple trees in my garden. One of them just produces really small apples (but tons of them - probably needs pruning!) which I don't imagine are much good for making anything with, but the other one has quite big apples which are slightly tart but fine to eat. I'd like to use them for something - maybe preserves - but not sure what would be best. Does anyone have any ideas?
I hope this is the right place for this question :-)
