A local newsagents has a sign which says "Only two schoolchildren allowed in the shop at one time". I think this is because when there are lots of them in there the shop owner can't see what they are doing and because they can be quite noisy and other customers find this a bit intimidating. So now they stand in a big group on the pavement being noisy and you can't get past.

I agree though, should be a sign up, it's not fair to embarass someone at the till. I do agree with not serving schoolkids during the day - when I was teaching local shops were always ringing up saying the kids were being cheeky or leaving litter, but they continued to serve the well after 9am or at breaktime when they shouldn't have been off the premises.

Went to HB at Wellington/Wrekin Retail Park near Telford this afternoon. Seemed to be a lot of good deals today and my trolley was full!

Jaffa Mallows (like orangey teacackes) pack of 20 - 69p

    Lenor 2ltr - 1.55

    120cm square (approx 4' square) fleece pet blanket - 1.99 :T

    Wheat Crunchies 12 for 6 - 79p

    Stute Smoothie 1ltr - 99p

Mc Vities Choc Digestive and Hob Nob flapjacks packs 5 - 79p

    Typhoo Tea Bags 300's price marked 4.99 but only - 2.49 :T

Milka Belevita twin pack bar (a sort of little half-choc covered muesli bar) - 10p

Cat Scratching Post (the type that is a tube covered in sisal string on a fleecy square base and the tube has a ball on a string for your puddin to play with!) - 3.99 :T (twice that in Argos and Wilkos:eek: )

Duerrs Jams minis (little jars like you get at guest houses and cafe's) in Raspberry Jam and Bramble Jelly - 10p

Cadburys and McVities Jaffa Cakes - 39p

Easy Laundry Liquid 1ltr (includes extra free) - 99p :T

Pataks Pilau Rice packet (for microwave) - 49p

Frank Coopers Cranberry and Apple Sauce jars (a top bargain!:T ) - 29p

KP and Golden Wonder Crisps individual packs most flavours inc our favorite Cheese and Onion (loads of flavour in Golden Wonder) just 10p a pack.

Viscount Ultra Soft 3ply mansize tissues (big box) - 55p or two for 1.00 :money:

Lotus Thirst Pocket Kitchen Towels pack of 3 - 99p:j

I also get the pelleted wood cat litter which is 1.29 for a 5ltr. It is over 3.00 for 10ltr in Morrisons and even more in Tesco.

As for the tissues and the kitchen roll, these are stupid prices in Tesco's(like over 2 quid for a box of tissues!), and the value ones in Tesco really aren't very good. The Lotus Kitchen Roll is very good value at 33p a roll and it is really good quality too. I got 4 packs:p

By the way, just a little niggley whingey moany bit, will people stop calling it H&B?! It is called Home Bargains, there is no '&' in the middle!

    Old habits die hard.
It was originally called "Home and Bargains" and then they redesigned the store fronts and changed the name to "Home Bargains" a few years back.
    Boring trivia info over.

I'm still on pounds and ounces so no chance of me calling it anything else but Home and Bargains.

Not living near any of these stores I see posts for B&M store and go to look up their website and it is http://www.bargainmadness.com must seems a common thing to add or remove an 'and' or '&'.

I raised this point back in post #52: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=4372927&postcount=52
The clue is actually in the title of the thread: "HOME BARGAINS" - why go to the extra effort of pressing the shift key and the number 7 - just think of all the extra kilojoules of energy you must expend by doing so (not to mention all the extra energy I've wasted by replying to this post - I'm exhausted _pale_ )

By the way, slightly off topic but I mentioned I bought the cat litter (pelleted wood) from HB.

A big moneysaving tip for you here. We used to used that awful clay granule stuff. The problem with that is when the cat pees in it you get a claggy wet mess and the liquid seems to go all over the tray before being absorbed. With the wood pellets you get a little piles of wet sawdust in one corner. Leave it for a short time to get absorbed. Now the major money saving tip :money: :

Get an old plastic colander (and use it only for this purpose;) ) Tip the litter into the colander over the bin. Gently shake it rapidly (from side to side). You will get used to the rhythm of this and notice it circulates the litter around as you shake it. The sawdust falls out of the bottom and the unused dry pellets (a large percentage of the litter) stays in the colander and can be returned to the tray after you have rinsed it out and wiped it dry (using HB Lotus Kitchen Roll!)

If you wanted to be really green you could have a separate bin and recycle the sawdust and kitchen towel through the compost heap - something we don't do but I am planning to start that before our bin collections go twice weekly in the autumn.

We have four cats which stay in most of the time, and four trays. A little 5ltr bag of litter lasts up to a week using this method. It used to cost us a fortune in litter, we have cut that (and the waste) right down.

Dom (maybe I should start a new "Using HB Products" thread?!?!)

I recieved an email back from TJ Morris about this today (TJ Morris are the parent company of Home Bargains, Half price or less etc).

    Thank you for your email.

I will look into he issue you have raised. Certain stores do have serious problems with getting swamped by children and theft from groups of children. In these circumstances we do have to implement a no unaccompanied children policy (say at lunchtimes), but this is the exception rather than the rule. In these instances it needs to be policed at the door, i.e. groups need to be told at the door they can not enter, only 2/3 children allowed in at any one time etc.

I would agree with you that the current policy implemented at the store will cause confusion and lose us sales, not what we or our customers want.

So it looks like it might be a local issue.
If I hear any more I will post back,
    Ian.

Nice to see a company holding it's hands up - hope they get it sorted. Been a while since I was at school but that would reallllly annoy me.
