Ex-Girlfriend won't return my TV

Hi Everyone - Sorry if I have posted this in the wrong section!
Basically, I split up with my Ex-Girlfriend about 4 months ago and she still has my 50" TV (cost me £900+) and I'm still paying the direct debits towards it. I had the TV ordered to her house so we could both use it, but she hasn't paid a penny towards it and everything is in my name. She has recently contacted me saying she has sold the TV, so what can I do?
Many thanks for all replies.
Thanks, Nick

I'm sure other people will be along with more helpful advice than me, but if it was in your name and she's refusing to give it back, wouldn't that constitute theft? If so, just tell her you're going to report her to the police unless she gets it back, or buys you a new one to replace the one she sold! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. As you can prove it's yours (as you are paying for it and bought it) then you need to send he a "Letter before action", giving her 14 days to either return the TV, or pay you £X, with X being the current market value of the TV, otherwise you'll have no option but to take her to court. Hopefully she'll just cough up the money!
Edit: reporting to the police won't help, as they'll consider it a civil matter.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
How old was the tv? Do you know how much she sold it for?
Did you owe her any money for rent/mortgage, council tax or other bills? Does she still live in the house you shared? Was it owned or rented? How much notice was due to give up the tenancy (if rented)?
The reason i'm asking this is providing this is something you can take someone to small claims for, it would be wise to figure out if there is anything she can counter claim for.You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
Hi Guys, thanks for the replies.
I've contacted the local police asking for a bit of advice and they have given me an 'incident number' and will be contacted by local officers. I bought the TV in January this year and I've paid £384 in direct debits leaving £648 still to be paid in 15 payments. I don't know if she has sold it or not, she has just sent me an e-mail calling me all the names under the sun and said she has sold it. I don't owe her any money, if anything she owes me money for all the bills/debts I've paid off for her. Her house is rented and she's a single parent living alone (I've never lived with her, I just had the TV delivered to her house).0 -
Thing is, if it was delievered to her house but you didnt live there then surely it would be seen as a gift...0

Not really, you can have anything delivered to any address, doesn't mean that item then belongs to the address it was delivered to.0

Do you have keys to her property?0
-
Yes I do, I have a front door key0
-
Would I be allowed to do that?0
