  • We have a big pile of potatoes ready for chitting, but we don't eat eggs. Anyone got an alternative home for them while chitting?

    Sadly not... Cambridgeshire!

Thanks for the tips. I was wondering if espresso cups and shot glasses would do the trick?

Do they suggest egg boxes because they are absorbent or because they are a snug upright fit?

From the supermarket, flat tray box with indented tray inside that held apples.

That's what we have - will try and post photos later.

I would either politely ask a neighbour/work colleagues etc if they had any spare egg boxes or scrunch up some newspaper and put it in a tray to hold the potatoes correctly.

I chitted mine on a windowsill, didn't put them in anything or on anything (pretty much follwed instructions on the back of the packet!) They chitted just fine and are now in their tubs.

Can you please clarify what you mean by correctly? Should they be turned a certain way?

I have now got them in an assortment of egg cups (i know we don't eat eggs, but we are well prepared for guests!), espresso cups, ramekins and then around those holders in the gaps, all of which are in three big lasagne dishes.

I have tried to place them so the shoots that are already showing are at the top.

They are in the hallway under the window, but away from the radiator.
