A lovely no spend day today. Though I went round the charity shops I didn't buy anything. I saw some gorgeous skirts but they were to small so I left them. It occurred to me afterwards that I should have bought them anyway and used the material for something else.

We had spaghetti bolognese for dinner yesterday, recipe is already in the index. Tonight my parents took the youngest two to see Father Christmas and then out to tea, DH had a parents evening tonight and will be home sometime after 9pm. So Dc1 and I had the cheesy broccoli, bacon and pasta bake I had left from the other day and some sweetcorn and peas. A very cheap night for dinner tonight.

I have my Christmas Home Delivery shop coming on Saturday. Since I started the order yesterday, lots has got added and not much taken away.

Its tempting to cancel the order and save the money and keep my spends this month at a minimum but then I don't have the energy or the time to visit the various shops and get all the bits I need so I will stick with it.

My bill is over £200 :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek: and thats before I allow the £28.50 reduction by using my vouchers (more on that later).

As bad as this amount seems, it does include booze that is being given as presents (£30) xmas beer for the OH (£15). Christmas wine (£17.00). Wine on offer (3 for £12) emergency presents (£24) oh and the now traditional bottle of sherry. (£9) Typing this makes me want to run under my duvet and hide!

Foodwise, I have tried to be good and have sort of meal planned for the xmas period but its hard trying to forecast what invites we will get and thus won't need to cook. Certainly no cooking xmas dinner in the Flat Eric household!

Anyway I mentioned about using vouchers - not the best use for them considering I can 3x them but instead of paying cash for my booze presents, I'm using the vouchers and giving myself the cash meaning I can buy something I want (well actually, reduce the overdraft!)

Will be interesting to see whether even with such an expensive shop due, whether my spends for this month will be less than November/October when I spent far too much!

I cancelled an online order thinking it would be cheaper for me to shop around, Boy was I wrong! It just meant that I spent even more money
getting tempted by all the goodies in more shops

On that note, my spends today were £50.58 between MrT, MrM and L*dl and 99.9% of that was on Christmas treats :o
I sooo need to lock myself indoors out of temptations way.

I can't work calendar months as I get my housekeeping from OH each week. If I finish the challenge on the 22nd. Use the money I get on the 23rd for the extra Christmas food and the money I get on the 30th as the 1st week of January I think I will be satisfied with that. Phew.

Thats it! You have solved it!

  • Did a shop in Iceland today to stock up on a few favourites-I think it was about £26-I will update later. Got another 25kg sack or spuds for £6.25 so whatever we haven't got over Xmas-we have spuds! Stuck to my list today and only thing I didn't get was green tea bags but that meant going to Waitrose and I would have bought more than t bags!

I've been on and tweaked a few things but its still over £200!

But the vouchers can be applied to that plus the xmas booze presents to be taken off so that makes it a bit more reasonable. I had a look at my local convenience store and whilst they have good offers, Mr T wins the day and better really to get it done in one hit than faff next week/over the xmas period buying more supplies at higher cost.

Do I tip the driver though? thats the question of the day? because this is my xmas shop and Mr T is who I usuually shop with but I feel it would be rude to give any less than £4 or £5 but on top of the £6 delivery charge, it seems a lot to pay out.... (bah humbug me!)
