BOGOF's ....

I love BOGOFs, but only if they are non-perishable items. I really believe however that BOFOFs on fresh fruit and veg should be banned and replaced with half price produce. Then less would get thrown away IMO.
I fully agree ... I would always choose a half price item over a BOGOF ... or BOGTM ... (BuyOneGetTooMany) ... I am sure it is a huge cause of food wastage in the average family ...

I love BOGOFs on fresh fruit -they're real bargains. Mangos, pineapple, bags of Pink Lady apples, melons. I always look for them and my family has absolutely no trouble eating them up. Two great big pineapples -cut them up, put in a big bowl and that's pudding for the rest of the week, or put in a tub for packed lunches.0

My local Tesco had BOGOF on cantaloupe melons last week, 2 for £2.50..... wandering in the fruit & veg department, i found same melons reduced to 75p each...so 2 for £1.50! And they aren't over-ripe either....the one we had o Saturday could have done with an extra few days in the fruit bowl to get to optimum ripeness
We only ever buy BOGOF if it is something we use, can be made into soup or go into freezer, can be kept for a gift or that can be shared with family. Mind you, it is a bit harder to do the sharing thing now our families live 5o miles or more away!0 -
I just wish there was a scheme by which you could deposit your BOGOF item and it could be used by homeless charities or benefit someone.
i noticed in a church hall the other day they had a sign up saying 'buy one GIVE one free'. People could drop of their BOGOF they didn't want for the church to redistribute. I don't know about the scheme as was there for exercise class not chuch0 -
It is a shocking waste. I just wish there was a scheme by which you could deposit your BOGOF item and it could be used by homeless charities or benefit someone.
Maybe you could ask about local charities such as drop in centres, hostels, play groups/after school clubs which do cooking with kids etc. I have to say I have a horrible feeling that there is some sort of health and safety law about donating food…Hmph.
You can always use freecycle if you have packaged food gathering dust!

dronid, have a look at this thread: Don't need a BOGOF item? Give it away then!
As we have an earlier thread discussing the merits of supermarket bogofs I'm going to add this thread to it to keep the replies together.
