When my son was living in his own flat and broke, I would often buy BOGOFs of things I needed and give him the other one. It helped him out and cost me nothing.
I'm in Spain now and the Special Offers around here are wierd! For example, last year, if you bought a particular bottle of wine you got a free roast chicken! Good value for money as we would have bought the wine anyway and the chickens would freeze, but the products totally unconnected with each other!(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
I have wasted the OF occasionally - when it is a perishable I would have bought anyway, so I get the OF thinking 'I might use it' and don't.
Other than than, I only buy BOGOFs if they are items I would use anyway - and tbh the BOGOFs are usually stuff I wouldn't use.
I have got a stock of Sharwoods curry sauces bought BOGOF at the moment - the really nice ones in the square jar - which are great for a quick meal when combined with the Sharwoods nan bread they reduced to 20p for no reason (i.e. the use by date was over a month away - and they freeze!), that I wouldn't have bought full price - but I will use them. I only ever buy cook-in sauces BOGOF.0 -
I tend to avoid BOGOFs on fruit and veg. There is only 2 of us here and the food normally goes off before we can eat it.
If its something I know I'm going to use, then I will stock up. I only buy shower gel, toothbrushes etc on BOGOF.
I have learnt to be wary though. Tesco had some noodles on BOGOF at £1.99. When I was in Aldi I noticed the same thing for 89p each. I was glad I didn't fall for the gimmick.
What annoys me is that certain things eg Johnsons baby stuff, oral b toothbrushes, always seem to be on BOGOF. I'm sure they inflate the RRP of these things so they can win you over with BPGOFs. I'd much prefer regulalry low prices.0 -
I buy BOGOF's when they work out cheaper than my usual brand, in other words, rarely as I mainly buy Smartprice stuff :rotfl:
Just yesterday I bought BOGOF mini chedders from Iceland (£1.39 per multipack) as it worked out at 69p each which was 30p cheaper than Asdas "Kids stuff" ones I was going to buy for DD's lunch
I also bought 6 bottles of Vosene on BOGOF from Superdrug (Boots didn't have any in stock  ) as my Asda rarely have it in and a bottle will last me somewhere around a month, depending on how often I wash my hair. I also use it for DD so I know I have enough Vosene until November-ish if I keep washing my hair every other dayThen I'll play "hunt the best deal" again :rotfl:
I've found carrying (my version of ) a pricebook (see organizedhome for ideas) saves me money, although you can get funny looks when you go digging through your bag to find your little book in the middle of the shop because you've just seen a BOGOF that might just be 1p cheaper than your usual :rotfl:Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0 -
I tend to walk straight down Sainsburys middle aisle before I start doing my shopping where they have all their offers and check out the BOGOFs, I'll always buy things like sausages, pasta, meats and occasionaly things like pizzas and cooked meats. Then I go back to the start and do my shopping making allowances for what I've picked up as a BOGOF, I usually find I can pick up at least 4 separate meals BOGOF because I'm flexible about what we're going to eat for the rest of the week and my menus are never set in stone. My Doctor told me that "1 out of 3 people who start smoking will eventually die." The other two apparently became immortal.

are these types of deals good for the purse or not. Go into the supermarket for milk and spend a fortune on things I guess I don't really need - false savings- or do we need them to stock pile for next months food bill and then save abit of money that way. In this day and age most things must be on offer at some point. What do you think ?0

I must admit i tend to buy bogof's , but only things i KNOW i will need in the future ,t-bags,soap,etc , but i never seem to get enough to last me to the next bogof!0
-
i need them! but then we have AT LEAST 4 kids here everyday and up to 8!
bogofs are actually a necessity here!
no stockpiling....it all gets eatenEvery day above ground is a good one0 -
BOGOF are only a good deal if you're purchasing them anyway0
-
I only buy BOGOF's of things that I already use and then use it as an excuse to stock up.
It really annoys me when shops give you BOGOF of things that only last a week (or less), I think it just encourages waste and/or overconsumption. Would always rather have half price offers on these things, that way it's up to me if I buy more.If you see someone without a smile.Give them yours :A
