Have never and never will put supermarket fuel in any car of mine. As discsussed, it may come from the same refinery but it isn't the same end product as what you get from Shell, BP, Texaco, Total etc.

People have short memories - it's only been a couple of years since that contaminated fuel managed to destroy thousand of oxygen sensors. And it all came from supermarket petrol.

There are cases all the time and not just from supermarkets, your argument is nonsense to be honest.

Tesco used to buy whatever was going cheap, that could have been BP, Esso, Texaco and so on.

You have been taken in my marketing hype my friend!

Did you actually bother to research what the cause was before you posted your little rant?

I wonder if gas is any different form NPower or The COOP?

Yeah, it was silicon in the fuel, supplied to supermarkets, big man.

Used to work for Texaco Marine at one time, we discharged into all the companies fuel depots, it is the same whichever brand you buy apart from some additives.

Been using supermarket fuel for over 30 years and never had a problem with it, the only time I did have one it was from filling with Shell once when on holiday.

You're getting there. Now complete the part of the cause which you're avoiding mentioning because you'll lose face...

Where did this silicone come from? And is it something that could just affect supermarket fuel or any petrol station?

And yes, I know the answer to this which, for you, is a bit of an inconvenient argument destroying one. So if you don't post it, I will....

    Be my guest.

We both agree that the end product you buy from a supermarket pump is not the same as that from BP et al all because of these additives. I like it how cajef says it's all the same, then adds 'apart from these additives', as if they make no difference whatsoever.

It's the additives which lead to the oxygen sensor disaster. This batch with the excess silicon went to supermarkets only (maybe a few independents as well??). It doesn't really matter who's to blame for it, the fact is it if you'd bought your petrol from a 'proper' garage that week then you wouldn't have had the oxy sensor problem.

And if people had bought fuel from a supermarket when Shell petrol was burning valves out years ago due to additives people would not have had a problem, or maybe you are too young to remember that.
