I know it's not really been an MSE day today but I just have to tell you about the amazing toys I bought for my friend out in Afghan! He's serving in the Army and I decided to buy him a childs air hockey table, big connect 4 and snakes and ladders!!! It'll cost a lot in postage but he's such a great friend and deserves to have a bit of fun out there in between putting his life at risk.

Glad to hear such great stories of debt busting and I think I'll be quite busy tomorrow since it is payday for quite a few of you! I'm so excited to see your totals paid off go up!!!! xxx

I agree with you anyone who is in the Army deserves a bit a fun! :A

Has he just had his tonsils out? I had exactly the same thing a week after mine, poor thing I know how scary it is. I made my housemate drive me to the hospital whilst I spat blood into the washing up bowl. Mine was because I'd picked up an infection so the wound opened up again. Grrr. Hope he's better soon x

Yes he had them out on Monday, the surgeon was very surprised as apparently it normally happens within 24 hours or after a week... he should be coming home tomorrow but then I think him and his mum will lock horns over her taking him back home... I'm not in her good books as I've said there will be people here to watch him when I go to work and let's just see how he feels once he has got through tonight as he freaking out about it happening again but I'm just really unconvinced that a train journey is the best idea when he has had so much trauma to the area.

Anyway... well done to everyone who has paid off something today :D

strawberry... that made me laugh! x

Jan2011 I wanted so say a special hello to you, as I was in your position at your age, after being very bad with my finances before, during and after uni. I'm not even very good now but have managed to reduce my debts from about £22k when I was 22 years old down to about £16k now, and I've bought a house with my OH during that time.

£6k in 6 years (28 now ;)) may not sound like a lot but I'm certainly more in control of my finances than ever before. And, as I mentioned, I haven't even been very good at making the effort to clear them and/or curb my spending. (Though hopefully that will change :))

Set yourself small targets and see what you can do. I think you'll be surprised. You've done the best thing (and the hardest) by taking a proper look at your situation, seeing that terrifying total, and deciding to deal with it. Remember that that figure will only get better from here on.

    Helen x

Hiya Helen, Thank you for sharing that with me. I really do need to get rid of my debt, at the moment I feel asif I'm loosing money.
I privately rent my house on my own, which to me, I’m losing money I really don’t have and it could be going towards my own house.
I have been putting every bit of change into a tin, which is nearly full!!! :j I will then pay it towards a debt. I really want to pay some more off my debts LIKE NOW!! but i need to check whats going to be coming out my bank first for bill.
I'm also trying to get extra income coming in and need to sort my house out and sell a lot of things  ( im a bit of a hoarder).
So is it possible to get a mortgage with debt? ( not that I'm going to run out and get one lol)

Have you filled out a statement of affairs? It really helps you to take a proper look at what everything is costing you :) If you are feeling really brave you can then post it on the DFW forum and other members can help you reduce the outgoings... if you aren't feeling brave, you can just keep it for your own reference and as a tool to get your figures together x

    Oh poop.

I really want to join this so thought I would tot up the debts. I thought 9,000 or possible 10,500 at the worst. However, it totals

    £22,759.09

I had a nervous breakdown, changed calculators, mentally beat myself up and now I am here to reveal all and get a grip. My 15 mins of feeling sorry for myself has been and gone and now I need to make amends.

Here goes to a hard but rewarding 2012.

Fantastic moneymakestheworldgoround :j, great to have you on the team and well done for only freaking out for 15 mins!!! I'll add your name and amount to the 2nd post xxx
