Great idea! I'm in, we need to shift £10k by next Christmas. I'm hoping it will be more but that is a nice round number and will be a massive dent in our total.

I've never done a challenge before, how do I keep up to date with it? Any tips?:)

Had a bit of good luck today, small bit of history first...

Sent an email to the CEO of Santander about 3 weeks ago, complaining about the interest rate hike on my Cahoot Flexible loan since they took it over.

Anyways hadn't heard anything so decided to give them a call tonight to see how that was progressing. The operator told me that a sizeable deposit had been made to my account today but it hadn't cleared yet.

    The deposit was for £2,756.44!

I only owe ~£3,560 in total on that loan, so this leaves me owing less than £1k.

Not going to officially update my total towards this challenge or in my signature until I get the letter from Santander confirming this. I don't really update anything until a payday anyway and poor ole mf0u1098 must be exhausted keeping tabs ;)

This just made our overall challenge much more achievable.

    Bring it on! :T

Hey, less of the old... ;)

I AM SOOOOOOOO HAPPY FOR YOU!!!!!!!! Update your total as many times as you want my dear, this is fantastic news :T:T:T

    Thanks Kerfuffle (love the name!),

To be honest, it serves them right - they took over the debt, removed all of the flexibility of it then ramped up the interest rate on it!

They have handled the complaint well though, especially considering some of the horror stories I read regularly on the forums about Santander.

I HATE SANTANDER!!!! I was very happy with A&L then Santander took over and it wen downhill very fast. They couldn't send a statement to my house despite asking for months but it keep going to the wrong place. I needed the statement as proof of address for a credit card application and they wouldn't accept anything else for some bizarre reason! 9 months later after still not getting a statement, closing the joint account as they said this could be the cause and then complaining but getting the response "we are sorry that you feel your bank charges are unfair..." !!!!!!!!!! I was complaining cos you couldn't get a statement to my door. What if my card got stolen, how the hell would I get a replacement when they keep sending them somewhere else???!!!! Anyway, closed all my accounts and got £60 compensation only to find out 3 months later that they hadn't closed my account, had charged me overdraft fees even though there was a zero balance and tried to chase me for over £30. Told them to shove it and finally after 13 months my account is officially closed (checked Equifax) and I will NEVER have anything again to do with thos c0ckwombles as someone here so eloquently put it... ;)

Anyway, sorry for the rant but just thinking of them still makes my blood boil...!

    Welcome twirly and louisa

I've decided that I'm going to clear off the credit card and use it as a debit card this month. Means I can't spend very much over the weekend, but I also won't get charged any interest next month :jaaaannnndd it means I can pay off my other bills with the c/c, so although not clearing the c/c will be more money in my purse to clear off the silly debts.

Still waiting on Lloyds, really hoping they pay me between now and next Friday as asking my Dad for a bailout at the age of 25 when I earn more than him and mum ever did is just embarrassing :(

  • Morning everyone! I'm so jealous of everyone with pay day tomorrow, I have to wait until next Wednesday! Got a few things to do this weekend - need to close a Santander account that I don't use anymore, and my RBS ISA (it has £2.30 in :rotfl:), also need to sort out the direct debits as I'm going to use my new Coop account for those. Plus, I'm driving up to see parents again for the weekend, that's a 400 mile round trip (£55 in diesel ), but has been budgeted for, as my sis is 21 and we are going out for a family meal.
