    Hi psychopathbabble,

I read a tip on a thread on this site one time about baking some potatoes at the same time as cooking something else, and then freezing the potatoes to eat at a later date. So I did this, and today after rooting around in the freezer I spied a potato and figured I'd have it for dinner. Well I have to say it was terrible, I wish I could say never again but unfortunately I have 3 more potatoes in the freezer << gulp>> :rotfl:

Oh well, no pain no gain :rotfl:

The very idea makes me feel sick  I sometimes take baked potatos into work, but if they have been left to cool too long before being put back in the oven then they go a funny texture! Ah well, as you say no pain no gain... :rotfl:

Hiya everyone, This challenge is great!!!!

I would love to join this, but I dont think I will be able to get rid of my debt in a year even though I would love to soooo much. Ive worked out I have about £22,868.63 worth of debt!!!!! It could be a little more then that but I have totalled all of the bills and letters from debt recovery agencies I can find. I'm 24 years old and have just got into such a mess. some of them were from 2007/2008!!!!!!

I just want to be able to say I am debt free and save up for a house deposit and save money like everyone else.

Hello all everyone sounds so focused! It's fab :)
I made diet coke chicken and a vat of rice and peas for tea- was yum scrum but ended it with afte eights and wine- not so good in my job lol

I've been thinking so much about clearin g these debts. all my dd's for the month will be paid up this week and I pay £60 a week into that account to cover them. I am going to work out how much they *actually* are and pay the rest off cc. I am so determined to shave food shopping cost right down and am thinking if I could save £100 a month on that that will be a huge dent in the debt in a year. £300 a month for 6 of us a dog and two rats? If I plan I reckon I can do it- blinking kids live on pasta anyway ha ha

Diet coke chicken? You might have to enlighten us on that recipe as I can't decide if I'm intrigued or thinking you're mad.

There's an entire thread dedicated to eating out of the freezer/cupboards and others for reducing grocery bills. Look at post #10 for a list of them. Personally I think if you reduce the amount of "junk" you eat, and increase the amount of fresh you'll start knocking money off left right and centre. However, I hate cooking so need to start doing this myself too.

Evening All - another NSD and NCD for me.

Eagerly awaiting my Cap One CC statement to drop through the door so that I can update my totals...I only have 3 outstanding debts now and the statements all arrive at different times in the month....I can remember a time when my blood would run cold at the sight of these envelope...now I sit on postman watch...how times have changed ;)
Congratulations on the NSD and NCD. I didn't buy choc, but another 50p penalty for raiding the work fridge d'oh! I was congratulating myself on writing a nifty bit of computer code.
I'm looking forward to the cc bill too, sooner it comes the sooner we can chip away.
    Evening all :)
I'm kick starting my challenge with £2.54 towards my total.. just a small payment today until payday..small steps and all. I'm already feeling giddy when I think about how good it's going to feel having cleared it all much earlier than planned :D I'm hoping this will keep me motivated, along with the mini challenges.

So glad I found this thread, let's do this!! _party_

    £2.54/£13,210.36
Well done that's awesome, every little helps and even small payments can result in large reductions over time.

I'm so impressed with how everyone on here has taken the first step to dealing with their finances, it's such a great support knowing there are other people out there living on soup and beans. All my friends love splashing their cash and can never understand why I am skint all the time. The girl I sit next to at work is househunting as a first time buyer at the moment and I'm slightly jealous but also don't want the massive debt of a mortgage so slightly relieved too.

Evening folks! Today was a small step in a long walk for me! Usually I'd spend lunchtime in the bookies betting on dogs, wasting away £20, £30 sometimes £40, but today I didn't go anywhere near one! Also stayed a bit later in work so I was rushing to catch my bus instead of waitin in the bookies for it. All in all I spent 40p on milk and I honestly can't remember the last day I spent that little. I can't wait till payday to get some debt paid off!

Woo woo woo, you know it!

Congratulations rusty that's a massive step in the right direction =) I bet you feel so much better for it too.

We've all got different amounts and xmas is a good target to aim for. You're welcome to offer a token amount of that debt and aim for that if you like? Just because it seems huge now doesn't mean it's impossible. There are tips and hints on here that help reduce outgoings so you can put more towards becoming debt free.
    :)

Why don't you join and see how much you could pay off? You might surprise yourself :) I used to think I'd never pay my debt off, and in the first year after actually putting my mind to it and getting sorted I paid over 5k off! x

You sound so full of energy and enthusiasm! Well done! :j have you thought about trying No Spend Days (NSD's)? I know it's really helped me curb my spending as I'm trying to bag as many throughout the month as I can and even try to beat my target! xxx

  • Well done Rusty!! that's a great achievement, it is hard to break the spending habits, I still have a long way to go!! :) Well guys it looks like it will be a bit longer after payday before i make any extra debt payments as HSBC have taken lots of fees away which means I've lost out on £75! :( I am in the process of writing to claim these back though as its so much off my meagre wages I don't think it comes under fair fees! I dislike them muchly!! I'll just have to wait and see what I get paid. At least my rent includes arrears which will be £50 quid to come off the total :) I am going to scuttle off and work out how much I owe precicely to the nearest pound so that totals will come down nicely when they payments stat coming out. I've had 5grand as a rough amount in my signiture since august lol!! Sorry everyone :)
    Don't turn a slip up into a give up:D

Thank you for your positive replies. I've decided to go for if, can i join please with a total of £22,868.63. If it is not all paid off at least I've started. lol. Since I started reading this thread I have made some changes. I have made an appointment with the stop smoking team at my doctors, wrote down all my debts on a spread sheet and I've paid off two small debts. Which brings my total down to £22,784.43

Oh and today I have been putting all my loose change into a tub.:)
