    ok i have my total

    £46,042.38

Knew it would be around there. Very important to clear it asap. We want future children which involves IVF. I want to learn how to drive, get a car. Follow a dream career which involves paying for study. Busy busy.

Lovely rainy day down south atm :(

I have two debts; an old payday loan with a DCA (£365) and an old CC with another DCA (£600). I maybe in a position at the end of the month to pay these off out right. I have made a special arrangement with the first debt as they took off all the charges and interest (was orginally £2k). The debt started at £680. If I pay this off early do you think I might get a penalty or anything like that as I made this 'arrangement'? Sorry if that doesn't make sense!
    In debt no more!

First of all, apologies for the (very) drunken poem. It was cringeworthy.

However, my hungover self has been fairly productive today! I've finally kicked into action my transfer from Santander to First Direct, which will reap its rewards in three months when they pay me £100 for the privilege! I knew I'd made the right choice when I called them - they didn't even give the phone a chance to ring once, and I was instantly through to a REAL PERSON!!! I think I sounded a bit taken aback for the first few seconds while I worked out what had just happened!

Secondly, I've applied for a credit card *GASP*. I'm hoping to get my balance onto a zero-interest transfer jobby, so I can start chipping away at my car loan instead. I've worked out it could potentially save me £500 or so by next Christmas if things go well.

And lastly, Sainsbury's across the road just sent me two £5 vouchers for the inconvenience of them expanding their store. Brilliant. I entertained last night, but with my CC rewards vouchers and the ones just mentioned my £35 shop was reduced to £0.03. I paid with two 2p pieces and got change, was a nice feeling!

Anyway, looking back there's a lot of success so far and a smidgen of despair. For those looking up the mountain - it'll be a slow start, but as interest payments go down your debt clearance will snowball. The old saying rings truer than ever - look after the pennies and the pounds take care of themselves. Keep your heads up, we're in this for the long haul!

    All the best everyone!
  • Ok people I have finally faced my fears and have my total. It's slightly more than I had hoped but on the plus side I should with a bit of time and energy be able to clear it in 2012.

  • Haha Pedro 3p isn't bad at all for a batch of shopping :money: Me and OH went to M&S yesterday to spend some of our vouchers from SKY - we're having one of their meals for two for £10 for tea tonight as a treat which should be nice - wine is in the fridge as we speak :D The poem wasn't cringey at all it was ACE!! and all the more impressive for being written out while drunk! :rotfl:

I've got an ebay auction finishing in about 20 minutes so it would be great if that sold (it's got a bidder but I never fully trust them to pay up these days!) and I need to sort out my bank and see how much I've actually got to last me til the 23rd - I've been a bit spendy this week so need to assess the damage there *gulp*_pale_
  • I LOVED the poem and I'm even more impressed to know you wrote it when drunk - I don't think I could even type after a few glasses of vino!

Just a brief warning about First Direct - they're a fab bank and I absolutely couldn't fault them on their customer service (and the £100 sign-on bonus is great), but make sure you stay within your authorised overdraft. It got to the stage where they were charging me £95 per month in fees and when I explained my situation they did absolutely nothing, other than threatening to take my bank account away. So I've switched to Co-op (and will be netting £200 in the process!). But, as I said, they're great if you play by the rules!
