Most of my payments have gone on interest, and worse than that, my Next bill came and there were £200 of spends on there that had missed the previous bill, so after interest and those, my balance is higher than it was the month before. I feel like we're slogging away, scrimping and saving and not even making much of a dent in our debt. Logically I know that if we keep on plugging away, the interest will reduce, albeit slowly and that eventually things will get better, but feeling very disheartened today.

You have my sympathies, this was my position for the up to six months ago - I had mistakenly thought my credit rating was trashed because of my husbands (our debt is mainly his business expenses), it was only when the bank persuaded me to try for their 0% card that I found actually my rating was high - since then I've managed to move all our credit card debt on 0% which is such a relief, I hoping to clear at least sixteen thousand over the next twelve months with of course an eye on the main target of clearing all of it. I'm not convinced I'll manage because money has been so tight for so long I think in the interest of a healthy marriage I might have to be a little less strict - my dh is really struggling with his business and never having anything spareThe point really is too keep slugging away and if you haven't got any defaults or late payments (last six months) give it a go and see if you can do any shuffling between your own cards - pop over to the Credit Card forum for expert advice.
Woohoo!! first voucher :j :j :j i ordered another one last night
I get screened out of alot of surveys because im 'unemployed' (theres never a selection for long term sick  hate them making me feel like ive chosen to not work)
and sometimes theyar just looking for people who work in certain jobs or have kids of a certain age. I once had one for people with a kid 10 - 14 (my sons 10) who likes video games (oh wheres the rolls eyes smiley) and he got screened out because he didnt own a 3DS . . . dut he owns a DSi
Yeah, it's a pretty unfair way to do surveys - they've loaded the questions so that the only people who complete give the opinion they want  Hardly a fair test ...100% of people surveyed said they preferred our product :rotfl:
Off to Oldham this morning to try and finish the Christmas shopping, spent ten hours in Manchester yesterday but had a lovely day with one of my friends. :rotfl:
Have a great day fellow mse'rs and welcome to all our newbies!0 -
Mooooooooooooooooooooornng DFW'ers
Oh it wasnt a very MSE weekendhad the inlaws and my darling niece down for the weekend and we took them to Cambridge yesterday to have a look round. Lily decided she wanted to spend her christmas money from her aunt and her great uncle on a slinky dog from disney store. Ok thats fine, your money :rotfl: then niece says 'can we go to build a bear to have a look?' ok thats also fine. So off we trundle, niece decides she wants to buy one, then DS decides he wants to buy one, thats fine they have their own christmas money, if they want to waste it . . . .
Then the bit that cost me, Lily 'I want a bear!!' its £11 she has £10.35 left . . . hmmm . . . ok ill spot the 65p (im such a generous mum :rotfl:) and what does she pick? the very same one her brother has picked  oh I can see the arguements now over whos is whos  sooo it ended up costing me another £8.50 for a blinking outfit for it    Told her its part of her birthday present as shes 4 in january, but still
So no putting back for jakes-mum at all
Jake has just gone to take yet another belt for Karate so thats just cost me £25and hes taken the money his nanny gave him for christmas and the rest of his christmas money from aunt and uncle to buy himself a black suit as hes taking his green belt so I figure hes pretty commited now
I am in locked horns with DH, as we also got £30 each from his uncle, he wants to spend his on his online game, which is fine with me its his money . . . . . . I want to pay mine off the credit card :rotfl: DH says no, now ive always used my birthday and christmas money for food etc, so I really have no clue about having my own money :rotfl: what do I do? keep pushing till he gives in . . . or . . . . for the first time in my entire life . . . let him win an arguement :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:SPC No 002 SPC(3) £285/£250 (4) £519.84/£500 (5) £768.32/£500 (6) £911.30/£600 (7) £913.23/£600 (8) £1184.82/£750 (9) £2864.04/£750 (10) £3846.25/£1000 (11) £1779.72/£1000 (12) £1596.55/£1000 (13) £1534.70/£1000 (14) £775.60/£1000 (15) £700.20/£1000 (16) £2081.34/£1000 (17) £1691.15/£1000 (18) £225/£10000 -

I don't think I will be able to pay anymore of my debt until pay day with is 30th - so at least I may be able to pay a little more this month and start the New Year with a lower balance. After that, it will be all hands to the debt busting task.LBM: August 2006 £12,568.49 - DFD 22nd March 2012

Afternoon all!!!:santa2:
Now.... a bit of advice please (and possibly some incentive to do as I heartily promise!).
My dilemma (it's not massive one!!) is that I don't get paid until mid next week. However, my circumstances at work are about to change for the better and I will be receiving a normal paycheck (it's been a while since that last happened). My dilemma is that I have nothing, nada, not a sausage of money for Christmas presents until payday. I do however have (wait for it) a CC which I can pay off in full on payday if I were to buy presents using it. My goal was to not even sniff my CC and just keep my head down til payday and do a mammoth shopping expedition two days before Xmas. But the prospect of this scares me somewhat, and I've seen a few deals that I'd like to take advantage of whilst they're on.
So....what do I do????? Shall I dust off the CC and make a promise to you all that it will be paid of on payday. Or do I sit about waiting for payday to arrive and do all my shopping then?
Once upon a time I would have just gone out and used the CC without thinking about it....but now I have all these virtual voices in my head tut tutting when I even think about it :rotfl:0 -
I'm very impatient, but I would propbably wait till payday! :mad:In debt no more!0

jakes-mum, buy something for you the money was a gift. Had they wanted it to go on food they'd have bought supermarket vouchers.

Errrmmm tough question, I understand you not wanting to use your credit card but I also think it would be really stressful to wait until payday to do all your xmas shopping. What I'd suggest is a compromise. How about working out what you are going to spend in total for all xmas pressies/food etc and you are only allowed to spend that. Then set up a standing order ready for your payday so that that exact amount gets paid off straight away and if you've spent less then you get to pay more off your credit card! The thing you have to be really strict with though is writing out a list first and absolutely sticking to it, no deviation and no spending more than you have budgeted to do.
It's really great that you are seriously thinking about this though and haven't just reached for the credit card without thinking! So a massive WELL DONE to you :T:T:T xxxNew Debt Journey: Pay off £19,622.91 by 30th April 2015 :T

Thank you for your replies people....
I have a list of presents to buy, and like most people we are really cutting back this year. I've even made a few presents for people who I know appreciate the handmade gesture in life, thus saving a few pennies!! I have to add I really enjoyed making the gifts, it felt really satisfying and a lot of love has gone into them.
I'm swaying towards being patient and waiting for my own money to buy my gifts. My main goal this month was to not touch the CC and then the real debt busting can commence once I'm getting regular paychecks. I may however have to slightly rescind my goal as there are two people I absolutely have to buy for before payday in order to get pressies in the post.... so that'll be my compromise I guess!
Thanks everyone, much obliged x0
