My baby is now 5 months old, and i had severe SPD, which i was receiving physio for.
My labour from start to finish was 2 hours and 20 minutes, with baby being born back to back, all on gas and air.
Yes it blooming hurts, but it's all relative, you kind of go into a zone, and know that you have to get baby out, and that you will meet the most precious person in the world before you know it!
Try not to spend the whole of your pregnancy worrying about the labour, enjoy growing your baby, and worry about giving birth when it happens.
Oh and tell you OH to get stuffed LOL!0 -
With my first was in labour for 18 hours and established labour for 3 hours but only needed pain relief for the last hour or so. My son was born in 3 hours start to finish and wasn't time for pain relief with him. By the time i felt i needed it he was crowning.
I don't have a particularly high pain threshold but coped okay with labour - although i didn't have the additional problems with SPD. Don't be too worried about it - pain relief is there to be used. My sister had an epidural with her first and it worked that well the midwife told her to put her magazine down because it was time to push!0 -

i had to be induced at 38 weeks after a bad pregnancy and awful SPD, was signed off work from around 20 weeks! They induced me on monday morning and I eventually had her early hours on the Thursday morning by emergency c-section. I can honestly say in all that time I never felt a contraction as such, my midwife said it was very strange, but I was in a lot of pain and the epidural wasn't in my back properly and was only discovered when they wheeled me round for theatre! I can say when I had my c-section I was soo relieved and if I am ever blessed with another baby I am hoping for c-section right away, I never want to go through all that again! However that doesn't mean that you will be the same, all birth experiences are different but I would hope that your partner would be a bit more mindful of that and not assume you will be similar to his ex, I myself would not be happy with that comparison.0

I only had SPD with DD1, was 2 weeks late, so induced, and labour was 3 hours 20 mins, DS2 was elective section, DS3 was in labour for about 5 hours.
C section was great at the time but much longer, more painful recovery, being induced was a relief after going overdue, but 3rd labour was great! Take pain relief if on offer, and trust your midwife! My SPD didnt make my 1st labour more painful than my 3rd, you kind of forget about it, and the contractions just take over. your body knows what it has to do.
Good luck and enjoy being pregnant
