Just as clarification if stars are not left then they don't affect the feedback at all- so not leaving stars is not a problem.

Yes, I do know that but what I am saying is if buyers are happy with the transation they will not always rate the stars which could be helping get my rating back up. Whereas if a buyer is not satisfied they will almost always hit the low stars.
Have you had to claim for anything yet? fortunately it is rare - 1 in 200 for me this year.
You actually get back the value of the item to you, so if you paid £5 for an item and sold it for £10 you could only claim back for £5 + postage
Second hand is different as the price you receive is (usually) less than you paid for new.

Yes twice and RM have only paid out the cost the item sold for plus the cost I paid to send the item.

ETA: I have never had to prove how much I originally paid for the item. I have only included the eBay page and they have paid out how much the item sold for plus the postage I paid to send the item.

  • 3 lows shouldn't see a selling restriction on an account, the overall DSR being dragged down below 4.6 will usually result in limitations as this is now below standard.

eBay says you can not contact your buyer about the stars left but you can contact them about the service they received. Basically your goal should be improving your service because you want to be better not because you want better feedback.

RM policy is to pay the market value or item cost (which ever is lower) plus the stamp cost (plus an additional services such as RD, etc). Different people get different results but if RM are paying you the sold price on eBay I'd consider yourself lucky with that result.

It is very hit and miss with regards to lows being removed. I've never had a low for P&P and recently one Irish customer left 4 lows for exact P&P charged, CS would not remove so I don't know about removing based on past performance.

    .

Numbers are the dangerous one that people overlook. For a fairly average seller 3 low stars in any category per year is dangerous- that's where you start being borderline for restrictions.

That's why many of us sellers are paranoid about a single low star . I have seen sellers suspended where overall their stars are all above 4.8 but where their expanded dashboard shows too many individual low stars.

Vicx is doing the right thing and is planning to try and turn around the situation before they hit full suspension. Other people have not been quite so savvy about it and will often continue to look only at headline stars and carry on and then get suspended.

  • You're completely correct, I think the best advice is to keep a very close eye on both as whilst unlikely, you could fall below 4.6 without any/many lows.

From what I can see on the dashboard 3 lows in one category still allows you be classed as 'above standard' but I suppose that depends on the percentage. I must admit I don't really understand how it works for low volume. In my case it's just understanding less than 0.5% costs TRS which is nice and simple otherwise I'd be confused!

I have only received low stars for P&P charges. I have 4.9 and 5% for Item As Described, Dispatch Time and Communication. My P&P stars went from 4.9% to 4.6% when I received 3 low ratings so I am now limited to listing 10 items per month.

I wish I was given the chance to rectify the problems before my account was restricted but I did not know I had received low ratings. I only realised when I went to list an item and I got the message stating there was listing restrictions on my account. I have active listings on BIN with the actual postage cost, I would like to revise those listings to offer Free P&P to get my rating back up but I am unable to submit the revisions because of the restrictions - therefore it's going to take a while to get my account back to standard.

Out of the 450 postivie feedback received over 12 months, only 185 people have hit the stars when leaving feedback - that's less than half. As I said, not everyone hits the stars when they are happy with the service, a simple positive is good enough and less time taking (but almost everyone who is not satified with the service will hit low on the stars) so it is going to take longer than I hoped to get my account back to standard especially with being limited to 10 listings per month and unable to revise p&p on active listings.

  • "unable to revise p&p on active listings."

Just an idea but you should still be able to end them?

"As I said, not everyone hits the stars when they are happy with the service"

With free P&P you will get a 5 for every single sale that feedback is left for which should help get you back up above 4.6 and once this happens the restriction should be lifted.

I can end them yes but I can not relist anything until the 1st of the month so I may as well just keep the listings running since I am not over charging on P&P.

I do know about the 5 star automatic rating for free P&P, which is why I offer Free P&P on small items. I think I will offer Free P&P on all listings from now on since I am limited to only 10 items per month, hopefully that will help remove the listing restrictions but I will have to wait another month before my account is reviewed again. It's looking like next year now

There is a slightly laborious way of doing it, it's all down to running reports by item numbers.

Thanks for this tip - I have now worked out which item one of the low P&P stars was left for. I compared this item number against another item number in 3 different reports and the report showed that only 1 low rating was left for P&P (2 Stars).

P&P was charged at £0.58 and that is exactly what is cost to post the item as large letter. Sometimes this particular item has to go through as a packet for 1.33 but I only charged 0.58 on my listing - definitely a buyer being malicious. As I stated before I will now be offering free P&P on all of my listings to stop this happening again.

I would like to contact the buyer to ask if it was a mistake and if they would agree to remove feedback since eBay won't help but the problem is two buyers bought this item on the same listing and left feedback one day after the other so I can't really pin point who it was.

Just thinking out loud but perhaps when Royal Mail sorted it they determined that it was actually a packet and not a large letter - if this was the case your buyer would have had to pay the extra postage and a £1 'fine'. Maybe their way of dealing with that was to hit your stars rather than contact you.

You should also be careful about contacting them - star ratings are supposed to be anonymous and if they take offence could report you to ebay who might not take too kindly to it.

You could be right about the extra postage but the item did fit through the Letter Guide no problem without hitting the sides otherwise I'd have paid the extra postage like I have done on a few others. If this was the case it would have been nice for the buyer to contact me so I could rectify the problem. I'm sure they would have contacted me or said so in their feedback comment rather than just leaving a positive comment and low P&P stars?

eBay did advise me to contact the buyer to ask if they would remove feedback so I can't see a problem with that but I wouldn't like to message and get the wrong one so will just have to leave it. It's a shame eBay don't give you the chance to rectify the problem but instead just advise you to charge free P&P from now on so they get more in FVF's.
