Realising that my first job was 20 years ago...
To deal with anyone overseas, we sent telexes - there were about 6 of them in the postroom. We didn't quite trust the fax machine (nasty newfangled thing). My boss had a computer on his desk, which was very novel. I used a golf-ball typewriter which was regarded as very modern (anyone else remember them?) and there was one wordprocessor between 20 secretaries, and you had to book time on it. I used to take dictation from my boss, or do audio-typing. Email didn't exist and neither did mobile phones.
I went and travelled round the world and rang my family about 4 times in a year, but everyone wrote me lots of airmail letters.
I'm only 41 but thinking about this I feel like a wizened old crone!!0 -
I was chatting to a lad at work about the Morrissey gig he recently went to. I told him I saw The Smiths back in the day.
