From whence did your 'image disc' come?

When Windows 7 was installed for us, as we had Vista on it originally, we were made three disks - one the Windows 7, 2nd marked Image and 3rd marked repair disk. :)

You've corrupted data on the hard drive or physically damaged it. They don't like impacts.

Bad news is that if you've damaged it, there is a serious worldwide shortage and prices have doubled and trebled.

That was my initial thought because it was a damn good slam. I don't have enough practical knowledge and wanted to investigate the problems myself before going to try and get it fixed. I have been going around the tinternet in circle trying to diagnose the fault but with no real luck basically so we could decide to repair. How can I check that it is the hard drive?

The laptop is getting through the BIOS(?) stage and gets to windows and then hangs.

    Who installed it for you?

The Toshiba Windows 7 Upgrade was for the same version that was on the laptop before. Professional is not on your upgrade path, so it must have been a clean install.

Have you carried out my instructions as of yet? Pointless if you haven't even taken the first step towards fixing it. You could have already downloaded and created the new disc by now.

You can also try re-seating the RAM, but that is not altogether likely to be the source of the problem.
  • Thank you for your advice which I fully intend to follow.

However forgive me but I am just trying to establish if I already have in my possession what you are asking me to download. I seriously was not joking when I said the download time was over 27 hours - we are rural - I am simply not prepared to leave my little laptop running for this amount of time.

I have a genuine copy of windows 7 64 bit along with an Image disk and repair disk via Microsoft direct not Toshiba.

There must be a more viable option available!
  • We have already reseated the ram - no difference

Repair disc via Microsoft? I think not.

So, have a go with your Windows 7 disc. You can also try the download once again, as the download speed can vary wildly.

Perhaps lollipop is one of those rare creatures that created a Window 7 repair disk when first using the PC (like I did ...err not) . , and the Image Disk is possibly the same virtuous feeling , maybe just an idea , do the disks have real labels or handwritten?

With all due respect, I know my connection and the speeds we have in my part of the world and what I personally have available to me.:o

With all due respect, your 'joke' is lost on me! Would you like me to supply you with a serial number so you can indeed make checks of your own.

I do not consider that I am being unreasonable when asking for help in trying to avoid a download time of between 18 and 24 hours and establishing whether what I have in my possession is of use.

Forgive me if I have not used the correct terminology in my posts.

I am just asking for help - not to be berated as to the legitimacy of my software.

I want to determine whether this laptop is worth saving and have a slight indication of what the problem is before I try to find a repair centre of repute!

So, what speed do you have available?
